Brooks has a gun for an arm, he isn't a bad QB. I said someting of late to this, to see what Payton can do. We have for more areas we need help at and trading the pick we have in this coming draft to get more picks is far better choice. We have Amac in development, Bouman has got to go and you bring in a FA QB or later round pick for the 3rd spot.

I say there is a chance Brooks is to remain in N.O, Sean may think that he can turn Brooks around, if so he would have the key to the city.
When Payton interviewed for the job, he declined to comment on whether he thought Brooks should stay or go, but he did say that the Saints asked him about developing a quarterback.

................Thats what the article actually said, he was referring to drafting a quarterback in the first round.

RE: Re: Payton to keep Brooks

OMG... people are only reading what they want into it. I don't think he made a decision in either direction but its in the context of refereing to Brooks and he says "...looking forward to being involved in that development". That means Brooks Development as a QB.

I disagree with that assessment, Euph. The author was talking about AB before Payton's comments, but it's clear that he hasn't made a decision on AB so Payton wouldn't say that he is "looking forward to being involved in [Brooks'] development". He is looking forward to developing a QB for this team. Whether that is AB, a rookie or a veteran FA is TBD.

My personal opinion is that AB will be asked to take a pay cut to stay and compete, which he will decline and the Saints will cut him. That doesn't mean that after he has tested the market he wont re-sign, but that usually doesn't happen.

No, actually it doesn't.

When Payton interviewed for the job, he declined to comment on whether he thought Brooks should stay or go, but he did say that the Saints asked him about developing a quarterback.

"We talked about that," Payton said. "I enjoy coaching that position. I enjoy being involved in the offense. I would certainly look forward to being involved with that development."
I don't understand where this quote ever turned into "Brooks is staying".

He declined comment on Brooks and the Saints have a raw, late rounder (AMAC) and an early pick that most agree will be spent on Lienart.....those are QBs that will require development.
I hope they're not dumb enough to consider a 5 year starter a "developing" QB, but you never know with these guys. At least there is the money issue and we know that the accountant/GM won't take AB's cap hit.

Whether you love AB or hate him, it's time for him to move on.

Geez why don't people wait for a real reason to hate the Sean Payton hire? The guy said nothing of keeping or cutting AB. The reason AB sunk to the doghouse in the first place is that he called out Tom Benson in the media. Benson won't forget that. Brooks will be gone.

plus, he doesn't have the attitude. someone who declares himself "a great QB" and calls his team mediocre does not have the attitude to admit his mistakes and attempt to change/learn.

sounds like lienfart after the national championship loss, blaming his defense. saying how they beat themselves and texas was not better. going from brooks to lienfart would be like going side to side. the same idiot different tan.

With a cheap owner like Benson, unless Brooks takes a big pay cut, there is no way our owner will pay big money to keep Brooks while drafting a high round rookie quarterback. I think it's going to be either we retain Brooks and not draft a quarterback or draft one and let Brooks walk. Who's going to want to trade for Brooks with his bloated salary? No one.
