Payton to keep Brooks

Asked if Brooks would stay in N.O

I say there is a chance Brooks is to remain in N.O, Sean may think that he can turn Brooks around, if so he would have the key to the city.

RE: Payton to keep Brooks

In a way I can really understand why he would like that. if you could get the production out of AB that he has potential for and get him to show some leadership then you would have a solid QB and could spend the #2 on something else....

noooooooooooooooooooooo

Was that you or TheDeuce that I've already warned about doing this. It is a pain in the ass, because it stretches the format of the forum, and becomes a real eyesore. -BnB

I don't think he was talking about working on Brooks. I think he was excited about working on a new project, Like Young or Leinart. I think he wants to mold a new quarterback, start fresh on all aspects. It's much easier to teach somone who is not set in his ways alreay, and we all know that Brooks can be set in some bad ways.

Actually, if you read the article, gfanaticlsu, is right. They asked Payton, during the interveiw process, if how he would feel about developing a young QB, and that was his response. The question was not about Brooks. However, that does not rule-out the possibility that Brooks could stay - unfortunately.

I think Brooks can stay in a backup role. Brooks said that he would stay if he had a chance to Compete for a starting spot. Hey, he can compete but the coach doesn't have to give it to him. I think it would be nice to have a backup with starter capability. And who is to say that if we get Young or Lienart that they are ready right away. Look at Carson Palmer. He is from the same system as Lienart, he sat out a year and look at what he did this year. Bengals in the playoffs, who what have thought that it was even possible.
So keeping Brooks in not all bad. He would look good as holder on field goals

No, no, no. He has to be let go. That is the only way to guarantee that he will never lose a game for us again. Besides, do you really want a rookie QB learning from Brooks' "Ha, ha. I just threw another Int/fumbled the ball. Isn't this fun!" attitude?

If we draft a quarterback first, he will be cut or traded because his salary cap hit is to high. There is no way he will stay on the roster with the amount of money a first rate rookie QB will demand. SOooo he will be cut or traded.

I was just trying to say that keeping Brooks isn't all bad. There is at least 10% good in keeping him.

...well, ain't that a noble concept, Mr. Brooks
..if he stays, I only hope that he gets the same "chance" that both Blake and Jake got of "competing" for the position. Maybe after Leinart is drafted (which, if Brooks is staying, I'm now all for it ), he can get his "chance"...

I bet the only reason why he's saying that, is that he got his agent to gauge interest in him around the league and found none.

...and nothing good can come from keeping him. If he gets all bent out of shape when he gets booed for bad play and lashes out at the fans, what do you think is going to happen when some rookie QB beats him out of the starting spot? He's not the Mr. Teammate that Haslett and Co. attempted to portray.

..plus, he doesn't have the attitude. someone who declares himself "a great QB" and calls his team mediocre does not have the attitude to admit his mistakes and attempt to change/learn.

...I'll tell ya, if Payton can turn this clown around, he can run for president and I'll vote for him.

'Cause the simple man pays the thrills, the bills and the pills that kill
