this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; Trade Brooks to Greeen Bay for Favre, if he can be talked into finishing his career close to home. Then draft Lienhart or young, let them learn from one of the best!...

RE: AB
i would say keep brooks as a backup, but as someone else has already pointed out, he is paid way too much to be a back up.
i truly believe that leinart can start from day one if we stay with a run first or short passing game mentality. kind of a dink and dunk style of the west coast offense that payton has been said to like. how pitsburgh has used big ben would be a great way to use leinart. another option would be to use a quick 3 step drop passing game that would keep leinart from getting killed by an o line that has a problem with pass protection. many have said leinart has weak arm strenght, don't buy it. a short quick passing game would be ideal for him. |

RE: AB
many teams make the mistake of forcing a rookie qb to win games for them. big ben started his rookie year and did very well. granted pittsburgh had an awesome team around him, but the strategy they used worked. i think the strategy of having a young qb just manage the game and not screw up works.
i would love to see leinart as a saint, but the more i think about it i might want to see the saints draft hawk with the first pick, focus on d the entire draft, and give payton the opportunity to try to get something out of brooks for one more year and then trade him while everyone thinks he has been "reborn" into a good qb. payton did get good production out of quincy carter, he may be able to do something with brooks. this is very optomistic, but hey i like thinking positive. |

i do to 25. i am not sure if it will happen, but i would rather look back and said we tried than look back and say, "i can't believe we passed up leinart" as he is being inducted into the nfl hall of fame in 20yrs.
