this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; I did not see Ferguson play in college, but I did watch his practices. He was AMAZING. They put him up against the TOP senior DEs and he made them look like high school Freshman. I wouldn't mind Hawk either ...

I wouldn't mind Hawk either though. He would be a great enforcer. I usually hate when we draft OL in the first round. I think it is a waist, but I really believe this is a once in a decade player.

RE: Re: RE: Leinart supporters......
I'm with Deuce here, I don't feel comfortable throwing all this money at a guy who's coming off a major injury. A couple years down the road when Leinart is the next Montana and leading some other franchise to a super bowls we are going to be kicking ourselves. With all these qb's signing with teams in the top part of the draft, who's to say that the raiders and jets will have qb's and won't be looking to trade up. I can possibly see a scenario where we could wind up in a situation where the best we could do would be the Lions at 9 where both Hawk (who's way overrated anyways) and Brick will be gone. Would you guys feel comfortable drafting Brick or Hawk at 2? Just something to think about...

RE: Re: RE: Leinart supporters......
I definitely don't think we should draft Brick. He's a good player, but now with the open hole at Center, and the holes already at other positions like LB and DT, we don't need to draft OT. We have pretty good bookends, and while they're not spectacular, we shouldn't use our top draft pick to try and upgrade a little bit.

Ferguson is way too good to pass up. The Jets have already stated they are looking to trade up, oh and one other thing didn't Leinart recently come back from major knee surgery? Oh yeah what about that. Haha. Good posts guys. I love this place.

if...big if...we do land brees, i would rather have hawk than brick.
the only way i could justify drafting brick would be if we landed both witherspoon and brees in FA. |

That is why I am excited about the Drew Brees race. If we do get him we don't have to pick up a QB with the 2nd pick in the draft. With this we open our options. We can.......Keep the pick and draft Leinart, Young, or Cutler, trade the pick and select a multitude of players. The options are endless.

It really opens up lot of options. If we could land Bart Scott (mlb-ravens) and one other quality LB, such as Witherspoon, Arrington or Peterson we'd really have a lot of the defense fixed. Drafting a guy like Hawk would possibly give us the most elite LB corps in the entire league. The draft is really deep in Tackles so we could likely pick up a starter at LT in round 2. With a FA center and kicker, I'd feel really good about our offseason. |
