Brooks made very self centered remarks regarding the teams downfall last year. This is after the saints have been talking all offseason about developing leadership from Brooks ... and I thought they were talking about developing leadership last offseason. As much efforts the team is puting in to get Brooks leadership skill he just does not seem to get. Do you expect him to wake up one morning and suddenly \"get it\". The guy is 27 years old and he does not show an ounce of leadership.
Brooks got the saints their first playoff win ... big whoop! How long are you folks going to live in the past. Do you remember a QB by the name of Don Majkowski, the guy who was nicknamed Majic Man. He got GB to the playoffs one year after they were the joke of the league since the Bart Starr days. Majic man was out of a starting job 1/2 a season later and out of the league 2 yrs later. The saints put up more points last year than they ever have. How many more points could they have put on the board if they had a field general running the offense. |

Cassady, Rusta... finally some decent thoughts. Now I\'m having fun!
Let me first go to Rusta... you\'re right about our system... we are calling it \"west coast\" b/c that\'s a popular buzz word, but it\'s not truly west coast. I\'ve said that our offense is more like the Rams, Raiders, Patriots, and Steelers... these teams don\'t truly run the west coast scheme either. What they do, however, it use their incredible talent at RB, WR, and TE to spread the field and let those guys make plays. None of these teams have \"athletic\" quarterbacks. They all have good managers... and for good reason. You have to get the ball in the hands of your play makers... and fast. Cassady, I will also agree that preparation is poor for us. Our coaches don\'t make the necessary changes in-game or over the course of the season to maintain any consistent level of success. HOWEVER, I am talking solely about how Brooks fits into our system. Thus, I am saying that all other things staying constant (a bad defense, poor preparation, etc.), a good manager at QB is better than an athlete who makes mistakes. |

I agree with you, Whodat, about having a manager at quarterback under this system. But in reality, and when I say this I\'m not trying to defend the play of Brooks, if this team once again slides like it has the last couple of years who is the more likely to go? Brooks at the hefty salary he now commands or Haslett who, at best, is a mediocre coach? I don\'t like to think too much about this situation because I think we lose either way, but there it is. The mistake that has been made to compound all of this is when we agreed to pay Brooks his large paycheck. Now it\'s a must that he plays instead of having someone helping to round him out as a player over the next few years. I have loved some of the things Brooks has been able to do, but then again there have been times I could\'ve strangled him. All-in-all I think his good plays have out-weighed his bad plays. Is that good enough to name him starter for the next 4 or 5 years, normally I would yell a resounding \"NO\"! But thanks to the system we now have in place I guess we\'ll never be able to make him have to earn his keep consistently.

Should they not pay players that kind of money coming out of college and make them work for it? Probably, but that\'s not the way it works. If we wouldn\'t have paid him, he would have probably not been here or not have been happy. Either way, it would not have worked out.
