this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; What do you guys think of him? I think they should play Jason Craft considering the good WR's kill Thomas (Johnson, Bryant who's ok) Craft is a lot faster and is a Vet... Just something to ponder on......

I think Fred has gotten beat a few times but there have been several times when his over the top help just wasnt there. I am big fan of Bullocks, but i know Payton cant be all too happy with the way he has played...and i hate to stir this up again, but if Laron Landry slips to us in the first round...???

I doubt if they will even draft a safety or any defensive back in 1st rd. It will most likely be a DT, wr, or a lb

If Laron Landry slips to us we need to just pick him up, he's a stud. But I really would like to see a DT or CB, or a really good LB.
But anyhow, Fred Thomas isn really athletic enough anymore. We need to replace him next year. |

Freddy gets no help over the top a lot of times so he's going to look bad more often than not, especially when the Safeties are backing up the run. When Hollis gets back, the run defense will be much stouter up the middle and there will be more support for the edges.
Regardless, we need to start replenishing certain positions, and CB is one of them. |

I'll say this again.......Nate Clements will be a free agent. This guy is a shut down corner & needs to be looked at seriously. Also....Asante Samuel will be available. Why draft a corner when there are young studs available at the position in free agency?

Actually, Thomas has played better as the year has progressed. He was burned on that play last week, but his coverage the rest of the day was damn solid. However, I do think that we need to draft a young cornerback. We've got to look at the cap situation long-term. With the money currently going to Brees, Horn, Duece, and Reggie, I don't think cap-wise we can afford to sign Clements or Samuel. It'll kill us in the future. If we can get one of those guys for maybe a two-year deal, I think that would be fine. At the end of that contract, McKenzie should be just about ready to put out to pasture and then we could sign one of those guys to a longer deal. But, I think the best play right now is to draft a young guy, coach him up, have a very serviceable nickel back, and improve our safety help in coverage.
