Wide Out
Is anyone else begining to think that Joe Horn moving on is hurting us now. Before i get beat up with things, I DO realize that Joe was/is old, been plauged with injuries and has/had a big mouth. BUT he was reliable when we needed a catch and provided great leadership that has NOT been replaced. No receiver has stepped up this year so far and we are 0-2. The receivers look lost on some routes, leaving Brees to force the ball to make plays, which is unlike Brees to do.
I love Drew Brees, but it does not look like he has a great grip on this Offense from a leadership stand point. What should they do?? This one should start some arguments. |

Re: Wide Out
I would think a little shake up is in order for WR. I think Devery Henderson is going to be benched next week, I would think either Copper or Patten will start. I cannot say for sure, but I think Henderson was either injured of benched in the second half. When the Saints had 4 WR formations, I seen Colston, Patten, Moore, and Bush on one set, then another time I seen Colston, Patten, Moore, and Copper.
Yes, Brees has been horrible. I think he will bounce back, but so far it's been bad. I know he had dropped passes, but his touch is way off too. Yep, he needs to blow up and demand that the guys get their crap together. |

Re: Wide Out
I say give Moore a chance. I don't care about size and speed you have to make plays and he seems to be able to go get the ball. Your #2 wr should be able to catch the ball and devery is not consistant. What about the guys who made plays in the preseason. I know it doesnt count and they played against backups but he showed good hands and he was reliable.

Re: Wide Out
Like i put on one of the other posts, it looks like Brees doesnt trust his wide outs. Sometimes when you can tell he sees something where he wants to throw the ball he doesnt. Last year guys were getting open, not so much this year.
TO me they need to leave Deuce in there to be the #1 RB. I understand how talented Bush is, but a true "Running Back" he is not right now. |

Re: Wide Out
Drew looks scared to me. The OL has been very porous the past two weeks. Had the running game going untill they both started fumbling and we got way behind. He doesn't trust anyone but Colston anymore. But, unless we can stop someone, this offense will self-destruct. We can't compete in high scoring games with these turnovers.

Re: Wide Out
A Word from Captain Obvious:
The O-Line is where the trouble starts on Offense. There's just no protection. I'm not sure if they're more banged up than we know or if there's just no leadership within the unit. The Receivers lack leadership as well. I think Joe could have contributed in that way had he stayed, but he was offended by the FO/Staff. They wanted him to take a pay-cut, he said no. Every one of us would have done the same thing. I hope that Patten can fill that void in leadership, eventually. Don't expect him to fill the #1 or #2 spot and get 70+ balls a year, but the team will need him and his expirience in big games down the road (If there are any more). This is a player the team needs to really step up and take control of that corp. I agree that Henderson looks lost at the #2 spot. If it were me, I'd have him at the 3 or 4 spot and bring him certain situational downs. Despite his talents, he's just not making any plays. That puts Moore as the two, who I really like there. He made some catches today that I like, and I think he's a gritty player with speed that can provide a spark to the stagnant offense. With Colston - who along with Johnson has caught everything thrown his way - at the 1 spot, that has the look of a Keyshawn/Steve Smith-type tandem that can kill you with the intermediate routs or the deep ball. A good pair to work in I and two TE sets coming off the play action... ...Which all starts with Deuce and Reggie. Here's where speculation comes in, but there seems like some trouble in paradise. Deuce, Reggie and Drew all seem to be in a daze. Did someone's mother die? Was there a love triangle involving Kim Kardashian, Mrs. Brees and...what was I talking about? Oh yeah, they don't look like they're getting along. I got no answers here. As for the D...well...I got news for you, fellow Saints fans. They suck. There's no quick fix, either. Draft wisely, trade wisely, cut wisely and try to score a lot of points in the mean time. There's been a lot of tinkering with the practice squad and free agents; there was a lot of sillyness in the draft with trading picks then trading up and back down then cutting the guys you traded for and all that. I see no method to the maddness, either. Just play football, coaches. There's a lot of season left. If the team can go 3-3 thru week seven, I think they can start to pull it together and salvage something of this season. Sorry for the rant. Bring on the Titans! WHO DAT!!! |

Re: Wide Out
Use the TE more, seemed to make a small impact later in the game, Henderson is on a very short leash.
Losing Joe Horn IMO is not what's causing our offense to stutter, we have speed, good hands and a great backfield, something else is up with them and Payton better hurry and figure out as to why their not up to par. |

They need to play with a velcro football and gloves...
Seriously, how do we get the receivers to start stepping up? How about an extra 2-hours a week devoted to the WRs in something called "Catching Drills". Hell, it wouldn't be so bad if some our of defense had them as well. |

Re: Wide Out
are we all watching the same saints team? cause the one im watching wouldnt benefit even if jerry rice was running the routes for them. theres just to many obstacles, and projects going on with this team ,to just pin it down to the wide receivers.

Re: Wide Out
When a good football team goes bad fans seem to always blame the coach, QB and then the RB, I think the entire team needs to be in timeout..
