Loomis just on Sirius...
Furor from SR.com did a good job of capsulating Mickey's comments. With full credit I provide Furor's post:
Vilma is high character guy, serious about football and his preparation. Fits in with the mindset of the rest of team. Can never have enough linebackers. They thought Simoneau played very well, the coaches would agree that he played the best out of all the linebackers last year. Intention was all along to bring him back. Can play multiple positions, will be valuable to team. McKenzie had a good repair on the knee, spoke w/ therapist yesterday. Excellent report, thought he'd be at full speed at training camp. He's very diligent w/ rehab. Was one of the best CBs in league, had his best year ever. Jason David - second half of the season his play improved. Struggled because of difference in style of defense from Indy. Randall Gay - was really excited to play for Saints, fan all his life. Been in SuperBowl twice, championship w/ LSU. Smart, dependable, relatively young...that attracted them to him. Faine - the economics were too big for Saints. Very confident in J. Goodwin to step in and start. Deuce - Working with same therapist as McKenzie. Deuce is ahead of Mike, he's running. He should be ready for mini-camp and OTAs. Everyone was very surprised with start of last season. Credit to the character of players that they were able to fight back into the playoff picture. Feels very good about the overall team right now. Bush - been a very productive player for the team over the last couple years. The receptions and rushing..although not to the level that people expected. Reggie is determined to improving his rushing. Would be surprised if Bush doesn't have a great season. Meachem - Did not expect him not to play at all rookie year. Was out of shape in offseason, the knee scope was unexpected which set him back so much he wasn't able to catch up. He is determined to 'right the ship' this season. He sought out Patten and has been working with him every day. Patten says he was a good pick and he will turn it around this season. In free agency players always cost more than you expect. You end up with 1 or 2 players less than you hoped for. You make up for it in the draft, or wait for the secondary market. On Shockey - Can't speak about another team player that's under contract. Really good player, any team would love to have him. Respects the Giants org very much, wouldn't want to comment. Trent Green - they are looking at QB position. Been lucky Drew hasn't been injured. If they could talk Green into coming in with the team, it would be a big plus. Aren't unhappy w/ Jamie Martin at all. ALERT: Loomis on Sirius NFL Radio in 10AM hour - Page 2 - SaintsReport Community Forums Several other tid bits I picked up were: Meachem has been working out with Patten for the past four weeks EVERYDAY! The Saints are not unhappy with Martin, but will look at the QB market to see if they can upgrade. Said Brees has played all the snaps over the last two years and this is good and hope it continues. |
Insanity is defined as doing the same thing over, over, and over again...and expecting a different outcome!

papz...I listened to Mickey and thought Furor did a good job in his recap. I found Mickey's comments about Duece and MM encouraging. Also, Meachem working out with Patten every day for the past four weeks shows me Meachem wants to prove something in 2008.

Re: Loomis just on Sirius...
...why wouldn't he comment on Shockey? hmmm...
There's no tampering in denying they are trying to get him via trade or admitting they are trying to get him via trade. Tampering would be if they talk directly to Shockey. I may be wrong... but this may be a draft day trade in the making... |

Yeah but these GMs are all like politicians. Trying to put a good spin on everything, and not trying to ruffle too many feathers. Did you guys actually think Loomis was going to say that Meachem was a bust. He drafted Meachem. His pride will not let him do that. I doubt McKenzie will be ready by the beginning of the regular season.

For me I hope he never sees the field this year. |

I would love that as long as either Dorsey or Ellis doesn't fall to 10, in which case I think we would have to take the DT.
Draft day should definitely be exciting |

PS - you know, after thinking about this for a minute, if they really thought that Simoneau played really well and was the best LB on the team, then they wouldn't have gone after Vilma in FA, and wouldn't have paid as much as a second round draft pick to get him. So this is bull. Just say it after me Mickey - "he sucked, so we replaced him this year". |
