Disappointed? Not in the least! I'm thrilled!

The Saints got it right. They got the stud DT they needed. They got some help in the secondary. And they didn't spend any capital on offensive players on the first day.

A definite 'A' draft so far. All smiles from... :D:D:D:D:D

Aaron Glenn is a great pickup; why?

First, he gives you flexibility by allowing Randall Gay, who can also play Safety, to move around in the Backfield.

Second, while he is not the top flight physical talent, he's a veteran who gives peace of mind considering Jason David's first season trying to adjust to a different team as well as McKenzie missing training camp with his knee injury...

Third, he's a playmaker; you can't coach playmaking, no matter how many times Farmer Fran simulates a fumble on the ground yellin' "Getet Getet Getet"

What bothers me is that we don't have that high round third to grab some very good DT's still hanging around in R3...

R4 pick should turn out to be an excellent deal for Vilma; always liked Vilma...

Maybe we can package remaining picks and still make some noise...

Oh by no means was I knocking Glenn. I just wanted to know why we signed him. I understand. I agree I hope we can package the rest and somehow get a late 3rd rounder maybe.. We don't really need a lot of quantity.. just quality altho I wonder how far Highsmith will drop.. any chance to 5th round? Ha..

He has tremendous change of direction and speed. He can be a starter. Especially if JD keeps getting burned.. Gay can play nickel and it all depends of McKenzie's health.. I like Usama Young but Porter is better.

I think Porter will start ahead of Young. We used a LOT of smoke and mirrors to get this kid. He fits our D like a glove. I am very excited. DBREES, I think that were dead on that we have been watching this kid for a while. I think Flowers is very talented but Porter is the fit.

Not for me I alway thoughts Stewart was better than Mendenhall infact I think Stewart will be better than mcfadden.

I know I'm late to this party.

Marcellus Wiley, former pro bowl defensive end and current ESPN analyst made this observation this week:

It's hard for a QB to complete a pass from his back.
That's what Ellis is going to do for us next season. An athletic DT is going to push the pocket and create opportunities for the ends to get to the QB. Hurries and sacks will make opposing QBs rush passes. There will be less balls going over the secondary's head.

Sacks will be up. Opposing teams YPC and completion percentage will be down, and yes the run game will be better too.

I see a defense jumping from 26th into the low teens, maybe even into the top 10.

It will be a sight to behold.

If you want to see what I'm talking about go and take a peek at the pass defense for Denver and San Francisco last year. Each spent a ton of money on top flight secondaries.

Today's draft was wonderful.

mendenhall is such a bruiser, it just seems like tackling him 30 times would definitely make Dan Morgan's head explode.

yep. look at the giant's secondary-very vanila and average, but their defensive line-fast and strong=average secondary is made above average by good d line.

Porter has what Flowers does not; SIZE and SPEED!
5107, 186, 4.33 Vs. 5096, 189, 4.58
add another 4 inches on the vert. jump 30 Vs. 34 and thats big.
porter is stronger 18 reps vs. 14 reps.
Production in college was good for both CBs. Flowers lives for the knock out hit. That is going to hurt him in the nfl.
Tackling is all about attitude and can be taught. Both need coaching in this area.

Re: Has disappointment set in?

Just a quick point. Last year our DB's did not have problem talking and helping on the run. It is Harper, Bullock, and Crafts best trait. MM is a great tackler and even Jason David was really good. The problem was that we couldn't tackle the WRs who were behind us. We got beat on so many big plays not because or DBs couldn't tackle, but because they couldn't cover.

Porter is a great man to man cover guy. Seems to me this was exactly what we needed.

On top of that he is a good returner. Very happy with both the picks.
