Without the actual footage to show, I would guess that the weather played the most important part in stopping Brees. I know that the Bills ran with a nickel back often played coverage more than any other mode, but I doubt that would keep Brees down without the wind.
It was swirling strong enough to require a holder on kickoffs throughout the entire game. Among the few passes that I saw thrown, the sailed and wound up very off-target for both Brees and for Edwards. The shorts routes seemed to work pretty well, but that's all that was working. I think that Brees wound up statistically low (for him) because he was smart with the ball and chose not to throw it. It's just a guess, but its my BEST guess. |
