A Good Team Would Have Beaten Us Today.

this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; Who are the 4 or 5 you plan on losing to? The Pats are the only team I can see taking us. Have you seen the Bucs, Falcons, Cowboys, Redskins, and Panthers this year? We can take all of those ...

.. so what you are saying is that if both Ellis and Clancy were there, teams still would be able to run the ball?

... racking up yards in the first half and inflating the stats is fine and dandy, but if you are a running team, you can't put away teams with your running game if you cannot run in the 3rd and 4th quarters. Unless the Panthers, Falcons, Dolphins, and Rams beat the Saints and I'm not aware of those losses, I don't think teams are running on the Saints when it counts, i.e., the second half.

Over the past four games, our team (and defense in particular) has been polar opposites.

I believe that's a sign of good coaching.

Completely disagree. Pats, Falcons in ATL, Cowboys, Panther's in Carolina could all pull the upset. Falcons and Panthers played us tough at our home. Carolina is starting to look like a playoff team and the Cowboys when they are on are a tough team.

Don't be so blinded by your fan goggles. I think 13-3 is an honest prediction, although yes we COULD win them all. The Pats game is going to tell us a lot. We should have our D healthy by then except Porter.

The Cowgirls are horrible. Did you even watch the game against the Packers yesterday. They have ZERO chance of beating us in the dome. The Falcons are falling apart. The Patriots have a shot as do the Panthers IF we have sewn up homefield advantage by then AND they are fighting for a playoff spot.

actually teams are doing great running against us in the entire game.....the difference is that teams get away from running the ball late in the game

the panthers, falcons, dolphins, and rams should have beaten us and there isnt a single injury on our defense that you could've blamed it on

losing our stud DT and his fellow NT hurt us a lot.....but hargrove and ayodele have arguably outplayed clancy.....i wont say the same about ellis because he is one of my favorite players and its obvious why

our secondary injuries have nothing to do with what we are giving up in the running game.....our loss of fujita last couple games had nothin to do with our run defense the past games....fujita played his game and still didnt help our run defense

injuries hurt us......no doubt.....what i am saying is that we cant blame these issues on our injuries when there are bigger problems

the rams moved the ball at will against our defense and we only beat them because we are better.....truth be told....we got lucky the past couple weeks and we need to improve quickly

Re: A Good Team Would Have Beaten Us Today.

Your wrong. We snuffed out all three running games the past three games in the second half. Steven Jackson couldn't even get a 4th and 1 on us yesterday.

Luck is for losers. We plain BEAT the other teams all year long, including the last couple of weeks.

u are missing the big picture

our defense has dropped out of the top 10 in defense......because of our run defense

we are currently ranked 19th in pass defense and 20th in run defense.....that is a steep dropoff from how we were playing over the first few games

now i understand the stretch of running backs we've played over the past couple games.....ronnie brown/ricky williams, michael turner, deangello williams/jonathan stewart, steven jackson

but to be honest, we shut down guys like AP, brian westbrook, fred jackson, brandon jacobs, and kevin smith in the past........we should be able to stop the run and we cant

giving up yardage on the ground opens up the other teams offense and allows them to rip apart our secondary later in the game.....by setting up the run they have effectively beaten our defense

the ONLY reason we beat those teams is because of our offense......NOT OUR DEFENSE

Oh, really?

Did you see Jackson gashing the defense in the 3rd and 4th quarter? No.
Did you see Turner gashing the defense in the 3rd and 4th quarter? No.
Did you see Williams and Stewart gashing the defense in the 3rd and 4th quarter? No.
Did you see Brown and Williams gashing the defense in the 3rd and 4th quarter? No.

And answer me this: why would a team who successfully runs the ball the entire game AND IS AHEAD in the scoreboard, why would that team abandon the run late in the game?
