Did the Bengals steal this from you guys?
I've noticed that since the Palmer and Ochocinqo era began, the Bengals fans have been chanting "Who Dey? Who Dey? Who Dey Think Gonna Beat Dem Bengals?"
If I recall correctly, didn't the "Who Dat" chant begin like in the early 90's during the Pat Swilling era? |

Re: Did the Bengals steal this from you guys?
lol. Some guy claims that "Who Dey" started in 81 and "Who Dat" started in 83.
All I know is that the Bengals made it to the Super Bowl twice in the 80's and I never heard them chanting "Who Dey." I first heard "Who Dat" when I visited NO and they had made it to the playoffs for their first time. That and "Cha Ching." |

"Whodat say dey gonna beat dem Saints" < I've been hearing this phrase around here as far back as I can remember to the mid 70`s. I can't prove it, but I'm sure the Bengels picked this up after it was a popular phrase here first.
But, good observation there Boltz. |

Yeah. Bengals fan are going to swear that "Who Dey" started first but there is now way to prove either.
Though I will say "Who Dat" got recognized in the sports media first. |

It actually goes way back than all that... if appeared in Jazz songs in the 40's and if I recall correctly Southern University was the first know football team to use it way back... it was used by LSU and Saints. Bengals offically adopted Who Dey in 81 but Saints and Louisiana Schools were using it way before then Saints adopted it as our chant in 83 officially but as I said it goes way back.

Hey! Bolts4Life,
Despite the untimely death of Chris Henry, and its effect on the Bengals, I still like SD Sunday. Cincy has a good D, and a strong run game, but their passing game and QB leave a lot to be desired. T. J. Houshmandzadeh's defection to Seattle may have had a very detrimental effect on the Bengal's passing game that Cincy has been unable to recover from. |

Folks just find it hard to believe that the two chants actually have independant origins. But they actually do. Neither team stole it from the other, though they are both eerily similar. SFIAH |
