Gregg Williams suggests the Saints want to injure Manning
Written by Mike Florio - During their march through the playoffs, the New Orleans Saints have battered and bruised (and nearly broken) two future Hall of Fame quarterbacks -- Kurt Warner of the Cardinals and Brett Favre of the Vikings.
They're now setting their sights on a third man whose oversized forehead eventually will be memorialized in bronze. Defensive coordinator Gregg Williams recently told a Nashville radio station that the Saints plan to rattle Colts quarterback Peyton Manning by hitting him whenever they can, and that the goal is to knock him out of the game. "This guy's got a great clock in his head," Williams told 104.5 The Zone, via ESPN.com. "The big thing is that he throws the ball so early that we're going to have to do a good job of finding ways to get to him and when we do get to him we're going to have to make sure he gets a couple 'remember me' shots when we get there." read the rest Gregg Williams suggests the Saints want to injure Manning | ProFootballTalk.com |

Re: Article: Looks like were gonna come after Manning
I love how we are now a dirty team cause we possibly put 2 HOF QBs into retirement. While the high/lo hit probably should have been called. the low hit was started by an obvious push the back that wasn't called.

Re: Article: Looks like were gonna come after Manning
As a Colts fan, I really hope that he tries. That is exactly the wrong way to defend us. Manning has seen Gregg Williams defenses before. Hell, he was in our division. We've already played the Ravens and Jets defenses in the playoffs. Gregg Williams isn't going to figure out how to effectively pressure Manning and, more, Gregg Williams knows this.
The best way to play us is to keep everything underneath and make us drive the field by picking up 4 or 5 first downs. We can do that too, but it's alot easier to screw something up and sometimes Manning isn't patient enough to not take a deep shot even when it's not there. If you're blitzing us, two things will happen: 1. 90% of the time you won't get to Manning anyway. If, by chance, someone misses a protection, Manning just lays down so you won't be getting these big hits anyway. Check our last 2 games. 3 times when protection was blown, Manning sees it and lays down before the defender even touches him. 2. There will be receivers open downfield. Gregg Williams knows this. I think he's just blowing smoke to try to make the Colts plan for the wrong thing. I'm not sure it's an effective strategy but Manning calls everything at the line of scrimmage anyway so everything will be determined at that time no matter what they think is coming beforehand. |

The Saints are a fast defense that likes to bring pressure from unknown places. I don't expect them to change now. Much different from the Ravens or Jets who are big physical type defenses that just punch you in the mouth. If anyone can handle it Peyton can. We'll see how nervous he is after watching the last two Saints games. It should be FUN. |
One thing I learned from drinking. You should always go Christmas caroling with a group. Oh, and always in mid-December.

I like Manning, and I think he's a great QB, but he can be gotten too just the same.

Also, you won't be playing at home. I think that's a HUGE factor that both sides need to factor in when projecting their defensive performance from the past 2 games. We've stuffed 2 pretty good running teams at home the past 2 weeks but I'm not foolish enough to project that against the Saints because we're not at home and you've got a QB to go with your running game to keep us honest. I've picked the Saints to win, but it's because of your offense, and more specifically, being more balanced than we are. If Williams decides to try to blitz us, and I do believe this is a big IF because I don't believe that's what he really intends to do, I do believe we would win. |

You guys are acting as if having the tremendous homefield advantage at the Superdome meant nothing in your ability to apply pressure on Kurt Warner or Brett Favre. I think it had alot to do with it. It's because of that, and the fact that the Colts give up the fewest sacks in the league, that I believe you trying to pressure Manning is pointless. In fact, I welcome it because it's less guys in coverage. |

Re: Gregg Williams suggests the Saints want to injure Manning
I dont see anywhere where williams stated he wants to put peyton out of the game. You colts fans think when freeney and mathis get to Drew that they are bringing a box of chocolates and flowers? This is football. Crushing QBs is what all defenses want to do. Williams stated peyton is the man, and we gotta hit him hard when we can get to him. whats cheap about that? whats dirty about that?
Again the media controlling people with tiny brains.... |

Re: Article: Looks like were gonna come after Manning
I'm going to say this, and flamers come on when I do, I don't like ANY of these special rules for QBs, and I will tell you why. He laces his shoes up, the exact same way, that a DB on special teams does, and you don't see anybody crying when that guy gets knocked out of a game. I love Drew Brees, I do, but I understand that he knew what he was getting into, when he played Pop Warner. He had MAJOR shoulder surgery, and wasn't even projected to play again, but he came back, and I haven't heard one cry baby word out of him about it. You know why? Because he's a man, and he knows that it comes with the territory.
I don't agree with SAYING in the media, that you are going to try and take someone out. That just creates controversy, and hippies coming out of the woodworks, trying to ban the sport. If you want a sport, where everyone dances around, and loves each other, try figure skating, or gymnastics. This is a man's game, be a man, or sit in the stands. |
