Stop the Run!

this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; All of the Final 8/July 22nd rules ending rumors come from Jets websites. When the NFL officially posts it, I will believe it. If it is true, who in the hell is going to be available after July 22nd ?.. ...

I have no reference point on weather they have done anything to improve Saints defense? ROFLMAO. Sure I do... Look at the roster it should be fair to say 95% played last season. Bresus has not taken the field in the forst game of the 2011 season yet either. I suppose on your basis or thought you feel he "could" be ranked 32nd at the end of next season.

My point still stands. The rule severely sestricts the New Orleans Saints, as it was intended to. And we need to prepare to stop the run.

On opening day we play Minnesota. We better be prepared. My point behind all of this is that I am one area away from comfortably feeling as we can dominate this season, stopping the run is that area. I am sure the FO knows what they are doing, however, I am here on these forums to discuss.

Re: Stop the Run!

Wait and watch. Stop trying to predict the season. Anyone last year think we were going to make a 13-0 run?

We had injuries in key positions at various times last year. After some one broke a long run on us we made adjustments and shut them dowm. Our defense was a second half defense last year. Adjustments were made at half time and we shut the run down.

I know I was not the only one watching the games and seeing this. The big difference this past season to previous ones was making adjustments on defense.

I think with healthy corners we can load the box and stop some runs.

Until the season has started and I have some proof I'm not complaining about the Draft.

VERY TRUE, adjustments were made to stop the hurendus long runs, but the gapping holes were never filled and they still had relatively 7-9-13 and sometimes longer third down yardage and they drug our ass for 1 st downs. it was'nt only the 50+ yardage it was shuting the run down. when porter and greer were there they ran on us, they could'nt throw. what we are trying to say is that other teams will be getting better offensively meaning staying with drives and scoring more. we have to be as good or better in 2010 it will not be the blowouts games of the past. injuries could send us packing early if we don't take the right angle on this.

thats the fact jack!!!!!

Re: Stop the Run!

I think we are starting to see the worry fever. The season hasn't started and we are now gonna lose due to a yet unforseen lack in run defense.

We started the year in the top 10 in defense. When the injuries came we started to drop.

Re: Stop the Run!

I disagree that we need an elite run stopper but another big body in the rotation wouldnt hurt. This year we will face Adrian Peterson, Frank Gore, Michael Turner X2, DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart X2, Cadillac Williams (not in the same breath as the others but had a huge game against us last season), Cedric Benson, Ray Rice, and Steven Jackson. Thats not to mention if Pitt rededicates its offense to the run and the three pronged attack in Dallas. Even if our run defense is better than our stats showed last year, additional help would be nice considering the schedule we play and especially the division we play in being all run first teams (plus Matt Ryan's ability off the play action).

The plus side to it is the QBs we might get to face:

Sage Rosenfels/Tavaris Jackson (if Favre doesnt return)
Alex Smith
Matt Moore/Jimmy Clausen X2
Matt Leinart/Derek Anderson
Josh Freeman X2
Jake Delhomme/Seneca Wallace
Ben Roethlisberger (two weeks back from suspension)
Matt Hasselbeck/Charlie Whitehurst
AJ Feeley/Sam Bradford
