New Orleans Saints Coach Sean Payton said Monday that running back Chris Ivory, currently languishing on the physically unable to perform list, could have played yesterday against Jacksonville. The team will have to wait two more games, however, before activating him.
At that time, the Saints will face a delicious quandary - one Payton did not address in his day-after a game press conference in Metairie. The Saints have enjoyed a balanced and productive rushing attack this year with Pierre Thomas, Mark Ingarm and Darren Sproles all healthy and playing very well. The problem thus far, Payton acknowledged, has been making sure each game plan includes all members of the trio and making sure the team doesn't present.

Coach Payton is going to have his hands full getting all of our RB's involved, word to the wise though coach

DO NOT TAKE THE BALL OUT OF DARREN SPROLES' HANDS

that guy is an incredible player and needs the ball as much as he can get it both running and receiving

I'm excited to see what Ivory can do after a long break due to injuries, he should be fresh and ready to go

Having too many RB's is a good problem to have, although all of our RB's are pro bowlers and all of them need to get the ball enough to make an impact, lets see what coach payton does about this!

I have to admit, when the Saints have the lead in the fourth quarter, and they need to chew up the clock, the prospect of Chris Ivory doing that has me salivating. In that situation, he wouldn't have to worry about blocking, or picking up blitzes against the QB... just hand it off to him, and have the line knock the Dline just slightly off and...BINGO... Ivory's on the second level.

Can't wait to see him back ,brings some Beast Mojo to an already great backfield. Everytime he touches the ball it gets my blood flowing, kind of like a drug I guess. He's a freakin bull.

I don't want any heat for what I'm about to say, but...

Give me a healthy Chris Ivory over Ingram ANYDAY.

Although I'm enjoying Ingram's on-the-job training! Not hating, I promise.

Projecting his stats over 16 games (approx 11 carries per game), he'd finish with 954 yards (60 yards per game), 7 TD's, 5 fumbles.

His break out game last year was week 6 against Tampa, which oddly enough is our 6th game this season.

I think he has to wait until week 7 before he can play though although I'm not sure, there could be some fine print in the PUP rules.

I know that we had some serious injury problems last year and it's great to have depth. But is it really to our benefit to have 4 RB's with starting potential all fighting for touches? Is there a time when (and if) all are healthy that they can't get into a groove because they aren't in the game enough? Is there such thing as "too much of a good thing?"

No, I'm not suggesting to part ways with any of them. I love the prospect of all four on our rosters.
