Let's face it, there's gonna be some growing pains. But if we can afford to bring in the talent required, and give him a little time and patience, I think this could be a great hire. |

Can Ryan be the first player coach... he is big enough for NT?

Re: SAINTS HIRE RYAN AS DC
Well we all know who it's gonna be now we just have to fill in the holes in positional coaches and players.
In all honesty I am and have been skeptical of Ryan but one of his proponents because of his old man. I want to see him succeed. I think the analogy to Gregg Williams is a correct one. Ryan is equally as brash and egotysical, runs a pressure based defense that is concerned with generating turnovers above all else. And that is what got us a ring and frankly it's the style of defense I love to watch. Nothing better than generating splash plays on defense. The way our offense can perform we only need a middle of the pack defense to be successful, and if we can hand the ball to Drew one more time per game because of a turnover our likelihood to win is drastically increased. I think alot of players will get behind this move, enjoy Ryan's swagger and aggression, and it will pay off maybe not immediately but in a year. We have too many personnel holes to fill in one off season and a bit of a learning curve to acquire. |

Re: SAINTS HIRE RYAN AS DC
I wasn't a fan at first but after doing some research and looking at the circumstances of what was out there. Crennel- taking a year off, 49ers Position coaches- Harbaugh is still acting like a baby so he's not gonna let anyone talk to his guys, Mangini-doubt he'll leave TV, Grantham- gave him an interview but I kinda figured that was more about trying to push Georgia into giving him a raise....but Saints weren't gonna offer him too much more than he was getting paid now so he withdrew his name.
Ryan- whether you like his personality or not, was the best choice out there for a 3-4 guy. Because he's a players coach he can get these guys to play much like GW but he won't take it to a point IMO that GW where they eventually tuned him out because he was so outlandish. I know people say "well he hasn't taken his defenses to the playoffs" look at the Offenses he had...they were basically nonexistant. Or in the case of Dallas just had no killer instinct at all. They played not to lose instead of going for the jugular which in turn lead to mistakes and turnovers. SP & Drew together have that killer instinct....this Saints team will try to put up a 50 burger in every game. Ryan is a **** but you know what. I can get used to that because all of our coaches are ****s to different degrees. And... 1. he's the lesser **** out of the 2 Ryan brothers. 2. He's going to **** on the media every chance he gets which I love. 3. Even though some don't like it....I think his hair is luxurious...and it looks a lot better than GW with his Just for Men'd goatee. |

Not my first pick but at least its over. I don't care how weird he is. Just stay out of the media and make some improvements. Install the the damn 3-4 and get some attitude on defense not with the media. I'll be happy with that.

I was holding out hope right to the end that this wasn't going to happen.
Oh well. Welcome to the team. Please don't suck. Thanks. |

One of the reasons Vilma regressed in New York when they flipped to a 3-4 was because he now had to face lineman getting to the second level and he couldn't be protected to flow to the ball and make plays. He started to get neutralized. Lofton plays the power game better. Your 3-4 ILB's are your bangers. Lofton reminds me of Vaughan Johnson in that way. He can escape the hands of a center or guard and make a tackle. I think he will adapt to be unprotected and make plays while at the same time making his partner ILB look really good as well. ![]()
I think our second ILB needs to be a speed guy. Someone who is better in coverage and can get depth and side to side range. |
