this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; While I was never a fan of the Johnny Patrick pick, I'm pretty surprised we gave up on him so quickly. I understand a good part had to do with the cap pickle, but it certainly sends a strong message ...

The New Orleans Saints have released veteran tight end David Thomas and waived cornerback Johnny Patrick, according to a league source.
Thomas held a salary cap number of $2.2 million with a base salary of $1.5 million for 2013, which was the final year of his contract. Patrick was only set to make $555,000 in base salary in 2013 with a cap figure around $740,000. There are a few interesting prospects at TE that can be got 5/6/7th rounds. |

I really like the crop of TE's coming this draft. Lots of athletic guys that can stretch the field and be had in the later rounds. The position has slowly evolved from the traditional blocking guys to the more athletic types this past decade. I wouldn't mind at all having our own Gronk/Hernandez attack here.

Every penny counts!
Found this little pickle... http://blackandgold.com/saints/33332...ouisville.html I actually vaguely remembered our draft chat about him. He didn't sound to great from the start... especially for a 3rd round pick. |
