Re: Meachem breaking news
I would've guessed that the Saints would've picked up another OLB with the open spot. Some one like Jay Richardson maybe.

Re: Meachem breaking news
Gotta say - seeing that pic of Meachem in a Saints uni brings back some good memories.

@LarryHolder: The reported Vilma to IR/designate to return would open up a roster spot for Meachem.

Re: Meachem breaking news
So formally Meachem can't ink that deal until Vilma is moved.

Re: Meachem breaking news
How about another intriguing twist
@LarryHolder: RT @HBalzer721: Significant news: The Rams cut LB Jo-Lonn Dunbar today from the suspended list. m.twitter.com/LarryHolder |
Re: Meachem breaking news
Had a ton of ILBs on the roster anyway. Seems like a logical spot to subtract one.
I don't for a second believe that Vilma is so injured that they feel he needs to be on IR; otherwise he wouldn't have made the 53-man roster to begin with. This is just a way of opening up a roster spot without having to actually cut somebody. |
Re: Meachem breaking news
Goodness gracious, guys. We have one of the best GM/scouting departments in the league along with one of the best coaching staffs. Give it a rest. Coach Payton has already said that they refuse to sign someone "just to be signing someone". You can bet your bottom dollar that every stone has been turned in search of help at EVERY position, including OLB. If there is someone out there that can help it has been or will be explored. In the mean time, we have a WR that knows our signals and playbook and is a year removed from being a stud deep threat for us. It only "doesn't make sense" if you're a bit behind on how things work.

Re: Meachem breaking news
If you remember on our 2010 D when vilma was injured, Jo-lonn was one of our best players
won the titans game with a last second sack and chased down marion barber vs cowboys on 4th and 1 and floored him His versatility would be welcomed, wouldn't mind bringing him back rather than another WR |

Meachem breaking news
It's plausible that Vilma may have had a physician visit lately and is not healing as "expected".
I am still of the mind that there is some crazy cockamamie defensive strategy worked up between the genius and the beeradonnis. Super secrete indoor practices .... Base soda cracker defense all preseason... There is a seven headed dragon coming out of someone's azzes. |

Re: Meachem breaking news
Robert Meachem is headed back to the Superdome.
The Saints announced Tuesday that they have signed the wide receiver to a one-year contract. ESPN's Bill Williamson was first to report the move. Meachem had just 14 receptions for 207 yards and two touchdowns in his lone season with the Chargers, who paid $5 million to cut ties with the veteran wide receiver Saturday. His salary still counts for $6.875 million against the 2013 salary cap; the dead money of his contract will roll over to 2014. Meachem was a consistent and productive player during his time with the Saints, compiling 129 catches for 1,980 yards and 20 touchdowns in his final three seasons before leaving for San Diego as a free agent in March 2012. Meachem carved out a nice niche in the Saints' offense, but it remains to be seen if Kenny Stills and Nick Toon, who both flashed potential during the preseason, will get their chance to contribute. Joe Morgan's season-ending knee injury opened up a spot for Meachem, but nothing ever is guaranteed. Robert Meachem, New Orleans Saints sign contract - NFL.com |

Re: Meachem breaking news
I dont see a real reason why we need him. I would hate to see us release anyone of the guys that fought and earned their spot. I am kinda surprised by this.
|
Re: Meachem breaking news
I liked Jo Lonn too but I don't think the Saints would be willing to take the 4 game suspension. Maybe if he's still avialable afterwards.

Re: Meachem breaking news
Welcome home. Now get to work!

Re: Meachem breaking news
Dunbar was a G.W. guy, he won't fit in here anymore

Dunbar is only 6'0 226 lbs. that's not cool in the 3-4; Reddick on the other hand is more the prototypical MLB size 6'3" 240 lbs...

Re: Meachem breaking news
What do you need Dunbar for, Hawthorne/Lofton/Humber/Herring is a fine group of inside linebackers even without Vilma.
|
Re: Meachem breaking news
Dunbar played inside and outside for us. He's pretty decent in coverage too. He was versatile. The Rams fans are mad he's gone.
And why is Herring still here. Please cut him |

WTF? WTF?!?!? We need Outside Linebackers, WTF are we doing re-signing a BUST?!? Does he have pictures of someone in a compromised disposition?!? :disgust: |
Re: Meachem breaking news
I think I'm part of the 'on the fence' mob with this one.
I loved Meachem and if the coaching staff think he can come in and make a massive contribution then I am happy with that. I do however struggle to comprehend why we are taking a defensive player off of the roster and replacing him with an offensive player. Even if we didn't do a straight ILB for ILB swap, I think most people would expect their to be sense in plugging in an OLB or even someone else in a D position? Either way. I trust. I believe. I sit on the fence :) |
Re: Meachem breaking news
Trying to keep an open mind. Then again, he's coming from San Diego to New Orleans this time, so it probably portends good things to come.
All players who come our direction from San Diego do well. lol. |
Re: Meachem breaking news
And if it doesn't work out, we couldn't have lost much. He had to be on the cheap...
|
Re: Meachem breaking news
Maybe the Saints are going to IR Vilma to make room for him.
If Meachem puts up stats like he did the last time he was here, the Chargers will be the laughing stock of the league! |
