this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; Played his first game last week to knock some rust off and now has a few weeks to rest up a bit. He is a very scary weapon when healthy. Is anyone worried he might have a coming out party ...

Re: Percy Harvin
Not my job to worry about him. I'll leave that up to the coaches/players and I'll sit back and enjoy the game.

Re: Percy Harvin
Think we have the corners to keep up with him and we've played him before so it won't be such a surprise.

Harvin has had 6 fumbles TOTAL in his NFL career - He's got 281 receptions and 107 rushes in his career for a total of 388 total "touches" - Divide that by 6 fumbles and you get a statistic that says he has fumbled on 1.55% of those touches. Colston by comparison has 575 receptions and 2 total rushes for a total of 577 total "touches". He has fumbled 9 total times in his career - Divdie those and you get a 1.56% percentage of fumbles to touches. Unfortunately I don't have any stats at the ready for the overall league and this appears to be LOST fumbles and not how many times the player put it on the ground....but I still think it is a decent comparison to show he doesn't appear to be any more fumble prone than other players. As for comments about Harvin lacking physicality, I don't know where you developed those, but he's a guy who will frequently initiate hits on players at the end of plays rather than running out of bounds.....it is actually one of the reason he has been somewhat injury prone. Finally, while the Hawks will gladly take what receptions and big plays from Harvin that we can get out of him, one of the biggest things he's done for the offense is to take "the top off the defense". Harvin is so fast that he often commands a double team or safety help. In his limited plays with Seattle so far, this has left our other receivers in one on one situations that they have consistently been able to win. That's one of the things that doesn't show up on the stat sheet...and we hope and expect it to continue on Monday night. |

Harvin is not going to be the problem, Wilson is. We have to maintain our gaps and not be fooled by the play one way then a qb keeper by Wilson.
BOX HIM IN AND MAKE HIM THROW FROM THE POCKET. He is very good on the roll out. |
