Jenkins is currently the 14th highest paid safety in the NFL.

Harper is currently the 19th highest paid safety in the NFL, but comes with 3.7million dead money.

Cutting Harper frees up only 2.2 million, and you have to replace him.

So basically keeping Harper in 2014 is the equivalent of signing a 2 million safety on the team, which is basically glorified back-up money for a starting safety.

I doubt you can sign a better SS for 2 million than what we already have in Harper.

Harper's already restructured his contract and seems to remain a coach favorite. Vacarro is the future for Ryan's D and will cash in later.
Agree we won't find a cheaper option unless drafted, no?

We'll have to draft a safety regardless, and that's why I like Washington St Deonne Bucannon as a complement to Kenny Vaccaro...

That'll keep us from committing money to two bad contracts/defensive backs who can't perform their primary function - coverage...

JP,
This Bucannon kid is projected to be a 2nd round selection. Who else do you have on your short list of ball hawking safeties for next years draft?
