Re: The official ***** and moan thread

Our defense has made great steps forward this year, but our offense just isn't the same. It definitely needs to be evaluated for many reasons, one being why we tend to start games like we just came out of a coma. That drives me crazy.

That last play of the game still has me shaking my head. It's not what cost us the game mind you (way too many things to count), but it was just so wtf?? I haven't come to grips with it yet.

Seattle played a good game, so I won't hate on them for now. Not sure if I want them to go to the Super Bowl so I can say we lost to the baddest mofos in the NFC, or if I want them to go down in flames like biatches. I guess it depends on the outcome of the 49ers - Panthers game.

As far as the season went...

I'm sorry to see it end. It seemed we had one pleasant surprise after another. This year, we've found that we have two guys in the top ten in sacks, a shut down corner, a power running game a new speedster receiver and a LT that could be a long term stud...

Last year we had the worst defense in the history of the NFL and a losing record. This year, a top 4 defense and a playoff spot. That's an incredible turnaround. 7 of the projected starts on defense went on IR, yet they were still one of the best units in the league. Those are the marks of a great organization.

We may be down today but in my humble opinion, the future looks very bright my friends.

What's wrong with our coach?

Bill Parcells has to call him on the phone and tell him what we all knew. Play Robinson!! He couldn't see this as Robinson was closing out games. In practice. Waits until the end of the season, and then finally decides to start playing him. Unreal. It takes Parcells to give him a wake up call. How out of touch does he look with this? I love our coach, but it seems he waited to long to make changes, like Charlie Brown, Hartley, and our run game. And can't he see Sproles is washed up? This guy has ZERO speed and no moves anymore. Horrible on Kickoffs and just watches other teams down our punts. Maybe he should get Parcells on the sidelines next year.

Sick of Graham getting mugged without getting a single freaking call..if that was T Gonzalez or Gronk.....how many free yards you think we would've had!

Having said that...dude..Man up, your a beast but you play soft under pressure!

Last but not least...NFL please fix the REFS...this is BS...no way will i blame them soly for our loss//We had our chances...BUT..ticky Tacky calls at crucial times are rather convenient ( See the Brady Game winning TD for THE prime example ) Then one teams allowed to MUG all day, and we get a OFF PI call against us when we fight back a little...SERIOUS??

OK, I'm done, Than ks Boys, had a Blast, Ready for next year already!

I agree with everything except the kicking game comment. I think Shayne will be fine: he missed two pretty long field goals in practically monsoon conditions, and on one of them, McCown held the ball with the laces in. (Laces OUT, DAN!)

not kicking a field goal with wind at your back in a bad weather play off game?

our WR and TE are wimps. they just do not play hungry anymore. felt this way all season. might be time for some fan favorites to get a gut check or get traded.

gotta go back and count the drive ending three passes and out.

simple put we gave away this game from the side line. even then we had a shot till colston turned qb. i have to admit i was lmao when he threw it. "Leave it to the Saints "

key play calling lost this game.

wow. speak you mind i love it.

IMO there are more than a few veteran " fan favorites " that have become too comfortable and do not put it on the line like they use to. so yes i agree some shake ups are needed.

as for SP cuteness in play calling ended our season with the NFL laughing at us. Colston did not pass that ball on his own that was the play call. not kicking a FG with the wind at back is another. Offensive play calling lost this game.

Roy Boy and the defense did a solid job.

I think we are starting to see the evolution of youth and de-evolution of the aged. A lot of young studs on defense, Jordan, Galette, Hicks and offense, Robinson, Ingram, Stills, Armstead and the aged, Sproles, PT (sorry, time to move on), and maybe a couple WR's (not gonna name 'em). I like our future and am mourning the changes (turnover) that certainly will happen in the off season, or should. My only beef today, was with the application of Sproles in the backfield…he's too small between the tackles (especially against Seattle) and the screen game vs seattle is foolish anyway. Also, running wide on Seattle rarely, if ever works. And the last play by Colston, I'm sure w/ Drew's late throw, he must have felt there was no time left.

I think teams are now keying on the screen when Sproles is on the field. This was not a problem before. But its starting to become obvious.

I agree. I think we will see more restructuring of contracts and a continues emphasis on the draft.

Hagan714, I agree... we need to see them continued to upgrade the pass rush. Both sacks and turnovers were down in the second half of the season.

Defense made us look amazing in that game. Im soooo proud of the boys on D.
Brees on the other hand, lost the game for us. Reality is reality. You can call him god and pat him on the back for the last few years and 2009, desurved, but when someone messes up they also need to be accountable, and Brees has been a big liability this year on the road, and lost todays game to. Thats just fact.

On don't think Drew lost the game. I think we have to give a TON of credit to the Seattle defense. They play physical - maybe even borderline against the rules physical, but that's one amazingly good defense. Period.

And our WRs and our Star TE need to learn how to match that physicality at the line of scrimmage. As much as it pains me, Jimmy is not the TE that Tony Gonzales is. He needs to learn a lot more about the finer points of football, IE how to deal with teams that rub him at the line...how to screen himself between the ball and the defender, and how to come back to the ball rather than just stand there and wait for it while the DB closes.

I'm not ragging on Jimmy specifically. All our WRs need to see and understand that NE exposed that weakness and other teams followed suit. It is correctable.

It's all good. We will be very good again next year. I'm already excited about the possibilities.

We are under new ownership? (Seahawks own us, officially)

Mark Ingram now has a "fumbling problem" to go with his injury problem and lack of consistent production.

Jimmy Graham is overrated. Don't pay him. Anyone can catch the balls he catches and anyone can drop the balls he drops.

Drew Brees aint the QB he used to be, I don't care how many yards he throws for per season. Too many teams have gone to the Super Bowl without Drew Brees as their QB since we have. We are the only team in the NFC without a scrambling QB. Grow some legs, Drew. You haven't earned the pay raise since you got it. First game he EVER played with a glove on his throwing-hand… WHY? I mean, who talked you into THAT?

Sean, please BUTT OUT of offensive play. All you do is create indecision and delay of game calls. We had the ball the last 1:30 of the first half and were hot except that we had NO TIMES OUT REMAINING. Same in the last possession. Sickening. You can't execute a "hurry-up offense" if you are making 3 - 4 substitutions each play.

When was the last time Darren Sproles ran back a punt or a kick? If ever? We need a punt returner who is a threat.

Abandon the screen as a dedicated play. Allow it to happen on a broken play, but it is too predictable. It was cute during the S.B. run, but it's DONE.

We were successful at running the ball right up until we abandoned it.

When it rains, - GO OUTSIDE AND PRACTICE.

So disappointed,

Alaska

How can you place this loss on Brees? Ok it wasn't his best game, but seriously brees? I haven't seen a single QB have a stellar game against the Seahawk defense all year long. If anything Brees kept us in the game.

What about Hill dropping the ball or Colston, Sproles, Ingram, or anyone else who dropped balls early on? Mark Ingram dropeed a wide open screen and later he fumbled which cost use a clean 7 points. I don't see how you can put this one square on Brees.

Don't forget that our Receivers seem completely unwilling (unable?) to fight to get open. I love Coulston but is he a #1 on any other playoff team?

That said, I don't think Drew is the QB he was, even 2 years ago. He's still my favorite player of all time but I think it's time for his role to change a little bit. We need to emphasize the run, then have Drew devastate teams with his accuracy after we've worn them down a bit.

Think of any MLB Pitcher: after a season of hurling pitches their arms aren't quite the same, and later in their careers the effect is even more pronounced. I think the same is happening to Drew. Some of the pressure needs to be taken off of him because by week 14 or so, he's just not the same...

This may have been as big a contributing factor to our loss as anything else.

A couple of timeouts after the on-side kick and it is a totally different ball game!

I agree on the D. They kept us in the game.

Drew made some questionable decisions during the course of the game but I don't know if I would blame the loss on him. He was under constant pressure most of the game but still threw for over 300 yards with no interceptions. (shoulda been one for sure but we got lucky)

Brees did not lose this game…period. It was a culmination of things. We fumbled, they did not. We dropped several passes, they dropped very few. Please do not pin the loss on any one person. Yes, Drew was not crisp, but he also did not fumble or drop the easy passes. You win as a team, you lose a team. Better team won, sorry. They took advantage of opportunities, we did not...Off season is upon us, we have a bright future, now let's go get a snack!

I can accept this more than I can accept simply "It's Drew's fault why we lost the game" or "I'm ready for a new QB." Just want to remind everyone that without Drew we are a 5 or 6 win team at best. Drew is 34 years old and some of you on here make him out to be 40. I'm watching Brady who is 36 going on 37 and he's doing pretty good. He make questionable decisions and throws INT's too, but without Brady, NE is a 7 win team.

Also, I get ticked off reading this about Drew because people don't remember how bad our QB's were before he got here. I'd much rather he finish his career a Saint. He11, I'd put a 41 year old Drew in there over the other 90% of the average or BAD QB's in the NFL.

LL, this is the official moan and groan thread, but you can't really listen to what pherein and bandg say right now -- they are drowning their sorrows -- or have completely lost their minds if they are serious. If they are serious then -- ask them which available QB replacement they would bring in -- and on which planet Sean Payton would ever consider that move? His play-calling may be suspect this year but I can assure you SP has not lost his mind.

I would argue that he's lost a little bit on the deep ball and his accuracy is not quite what it was.

I really hope that you are right and getting him some protection will see a reverse in this trend. Perhaps the reason he loses a bit toward the end of the year is because of the beating he takes throughout the year.

I still think that he's a top 3-5 QB in the league, I just don't think he's #1 like I did a couple of years ago...
