Adam Schein: Drew Brees Isn't Elite

Brees threw 19 interceptions in 2012 but he also threw 43 TDs. He threw for over 5000 yds without his head coach and under the guidance of an interim to the interim head coach who was also out for a half season. The GM was missing for about half a season also. Rodgers spent this year injured and Peyton Manning just lost his second out of three Super Bowls he has played in. Do we not count Peyton's post season failures or Rodgers' injuries but we count Drew's one "bad" season against him in determining if he is elite? Ask any team not named Seahawks, Patriots, or Broncos if they want to trade their QB for Drew and let's see how many of them suddenly think he is elite. Fourth place my sweet behind!

You list three teams that wouldn't trade for him yet take issue he's rated fourth?

One of the teams I listed, the Seahawks, have a second year QB who may or may not become elite. I suspect that they would trade for him, too, if they weren't coming off a Super Bowl win. So, yes, I think he deserves to be ranked higher. Also, I think the Broncos, led by Manning, should come under the same scrutiny that Brees has come under; Peyton has post season issues and is still considered elite while Brees has "a bad" 2012 season and the writer considers him unworthy of being elite. Remember, one of the Super Bowls Manning lost was to the Saints and in the one he won, I believe he threw for 239 yards; easily just a first half for Brees. Just saying, apply the same leeway to all of the guys discussed and Brees is elite, too.
