Saints Rumors: Robert Meachem, Jabari Greer, Jonathan Goodwin could be back

this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; The article isn't even speculation, it's more listing obvious possibilities. They "could" being back Shanle, Brooks, and Ditka as well. Who from the Saints organization originated these "rumors"? We presently have 65 players under contract and will draft at least ...

We presently have 65 players under contract and will draft at least 7 more I believe so not only will those not be here on opening day, neither will a handful or two that we know now.

Greer - We just lost 2.6m in cap space when he was cut. Loomis would look like a fool if brought back.

2.6m in dead money + 1m league minimum = 3.7m

Can you imagine the outrage if Brooks indeed came back? LOL
Greer, as good as he was, even if he could come back, has lost a step or two. Not a good recipe for not getting beat. Maybe a late season addition due to injury, provided he is healthy of course.

Safety blanket addition if we lose someone very possible. Otherwise I don't see it.

You don't start a youth movement by bringing back 10 year old vets to take reps in camp or preseason.

Those 3 are not needs, and Goodwin would cost more than a rookie.

thought Greer sch to make 6 mil this year? And if so 3.7 is much better than 6 mil

Seriously?

Ok, fine lets put this in layman terms using your numbers since you like the idea.

You bought a $6m car, sold it because it wasn't worth the $6m for a $2.7m loss.. So you then re-bought it for $1m, marveled at the brilliance and slept well that night?

If your car won't refinance because it isn't worth it, and you make the tough decision that takes 2.7 million in credit from you.... Your not going back down that road with out looking like an idiot.

If those 3 are our there right now at this stage, there is a reason. It's probably because Greer will not sign for league minimum of 1m

Ok, first off we did not pay 6 mil this year for him. We paid 2.7 mil to keep from paying 6 mil. If we could sign him for 1 mil that would equal 3.7 mil. A savings of 2.3 million. I would take that. As for him asking more I agree there.

Ever had to pay 2.7 mil to get out of a 6m deal? Do you think Benson sees it as Loomis saving him 3.3m or costing him 2.7m. Trust me, Loomis had to explain that 2.7m loss in cap space and he has no plans of explaining how he was wrong.

1m+2.7 = 3.7m for 32yo 10 season Greer coming off a torn ACL
Or
750k for a healthy rookie <---- I'm going rookie all day.

Again there was a reason Loomis ate 2.7m in cap space on Greer and no one has touched him as a FA.

It's time to move on.

Yeah, Greer's career is pretty much over.

but the $2.7 is gone, already spent

Now you are talking about spending $750K for a rookie or $1 mill for a vet.
If it's a rookie with potential, then sure, that's the way to go. However, we already have Wade, Sweeting, and Frederick? as projects. Bailey is a question mark and White is a work in progress.
If Greer is healthy, I'd rather him than another FA or UD rookie.

I said 1m for a vet because with his 10 years that is Greers vet minimum. There is also the assumption that if there was any viability left on Greer, Loomis tried to negotiate a more friendly cap number and Greer wouldn't take it so he was cut. More assumption that a team tried to approach Greer with vet minimum and he is still a free agent.

Yes the 2.7m in cap space is already spent, at this point its a sunk cost and I do not see Loomis sinking another dollar into a player that he was forced to sink an unrecoverable 2.7m.

When players get up in age or 10+ years they don't usually go for a vet minimum because of the risk that he could never get injured and never fully recover. In Greers case he has made $31m in his career and since he hasn't retired I am assuming that he can still play, but he isn't going to risk being crippled for a vet minimum.

There are boat load of assumptions, basically because we have nothing else to go on.
