It would not surprise me one bit if the compromise contract was already hammered out 90% of the way by both parties, and it is just sitting in somebody's drawer right now, waiting to be pulled out, the last details finalized, and signed.
My concern is he may not be as important to the team as Brees. Last year, the guy got hemmed up at the line with aggressive corners and he was not open. It's possible he could reemerge as a serious threat with additions of Colemen and Cooks, but I still think we can get the job done with a normal pay tight end who can actually block at the position.
