Watched him live in 3 home games and he was always around the ball. Very good instincts, makes plays, good in coverage and he consistently stood out. Coach Paterson has been quoted as saying that Dawson is a film room/study guy. Sure there are other LB's in the draft who may be faster, but all I saw was a guy who stood out when the lights come on. Nothing against EK but Paul has impressed me well before all of this combine and draft talk. |
Re: 2015 draft??
Thanks K Major! Great response. Paul Dawson has everything you would want in a player... But the draftniks make his attitude out to be some kind of problem. He kinda seems like Vilma.

Re: 2015 draft??
I know the runours out yesterday said that nobody with character issues will be drafted early.
If Marcus Peters or Randy Gregory are there at 31 do you pull the trigger? Seen this earlier from Mayock [Quote]On TCU linebacker Paul Dawson, who the Saints saw during his college pro day in Fort Worth: "He's had a lot of questions about his football passion. In all honesty, I love the kid's tape, but he's going to get pushed down late 2, the mid 3, even slide into 4. People are killing his football character."[Quote] He would be a steal with one of our 3rd rounders. What would people think of say 1. BPA(Thinking Sherff/Collins/Shelton) 1 (31) Marcus Peters/Randy Gregory 2. Phillip Dorsett 3. Paul Dawson 3. Ali Marpet/Clive Walford Some question marks but surely the value is there |

Re: 2015 draft??
Since RB David Johnson has gotten press from this list, he's taken advantage and gained momentum as more teams have found out about his game...
Former UF DE Lynden Trail has the 'wow' size, but hasn't impressed, gained any momentum in interviews or pro-day, further he'll have to bulk up as he'll need to play DE and not OLB (Leo) as he did at his transferred college Norfolk... DE Zach Wagenmann of Montana had begun to create some strong interest among a few teams but broke his foot recently during a private workout... William & Mary WR Tre McBride may sneak into the third round... Cole Manhart has intriguing athleticism for a big guy yet several scouts have noted that he seems to lack functional strength in his drills, exercises... WR Jake Kumerow, who's got NFL bloodlines, may have gone to too small a school and looks like a late physical bloomer who will need development time to catch up to his peers... QB Bryan Bennett may have made a poor choice in his transferred college and may have too large a development gap to catch on to an NFL team; his best shot may be a Jeff Garcia route and gain development via the CFL... TE Mycole Pruitt is really more of an H-Back like that of former Vikings HB Jimmy Kleinsasser, but will benefit from a very shallow TE class this draft season and go higher than he should to a TE-needy NFL club... |

Dawson seems to have slightly better instincts and has a nastier edge, hitting ability; however, he's really struggled in pass coverage drills and may not have the size to survive in a 3-4 base... But the game has changed in the last five years to an unencumbered passing league with way more plays facing the pass and so Kendricks should have a significant advantage and be taken way before Dawson... And so that's why I'd like the Saints to take... Stephone Anthony Anthony could play in both base fronts... Also impressive is that Anthony joined Vic Beasley in enlisting Tony Villani of XPE Sports to take charge of their respective careers and both had these remarkable runs of progression leading to the draft... Anthony has shown the knack for "laying the wood" in his film; measures out with prototypical size/weight; and really showed progression and 'coachable' traits which were supposed negatives in his scouting profile before the senior bowl - Anthony has got the higher ceiling... I'd be willing to spend pick 31 on Anthony or trade that pick back into the top five picks in the second, but still take Anthony... I think the success of this draft and keep it from being another wasted opportunity will be predicated on getting Vic Beasley with our first pick... But getting Anthony will lock this draft down as a success... |

I'd be really curious who he'd like as an ILB as well... Is he out hunting wabbit?!? http://blackandgold.com/u/5271-albums105-picture824.jpg Two other guys 'lurking out there' who could be real steals at ILB are Michigan State ILB Taiwan Jones who I think is worthy of a third round pick and could be taken there in thin 3-4 ILB draft class... Also, though primarily an OLB, Tennessee at Chattanooga's Davis Tull offerst the versatility trait NFL teams crave and he could thrive in as 3-4 base ILB and be taken in the mid-rounds (3-4-5) because of that versatility; Tull is a small-school Clay Matthews type... |

Trey Flowers is interesting. Might very well end up being a steal. I like this guy.
