2015 draft??

This season just keeps going from bad to worse. Now Bush and Cooks on the IR, I'm just hoping to stay "competitive" and healthy for the remainder of the season. With that said, here's looking forward to the draft

Fanspeak's On the Clock NFL Mock Draft Simulator

My 7 round draft results

Round 1: Vic Beasley - OLB - Clemson
- stud at a position of need, that's all

Round 2: Denzel Perrymen - ILB - Miami
- arguably the top ILB in this draft. Kid is good, plus he has a pedigree from Miami including Ray Lewis. Jon VIima, DJ Williams, Dan Morgan, Jon Beason, etc. AND ILB is another position of need

Round 3: Rashad Greene - WR - Florida State
- another solid WR, runs precise routes, has good hands. Maybe not be 6'4 like people want these days, but he can straight ball. Plus we've seen the decline of Colston and the end of Meachem. A trio of Cooks, Stills and Greene would be nice to have, plus a 6'6 Coleman if the light bulb turns on and he figures out how to catch the ball

Round 4: Kevin Johnson - CB - Wake Forrest
- smaller school for D1 big boys. Last two seasons has had 25 PBUs and 6 INTs. Read some nice things and figured in the 4th, he'd be a good pick and it's an area of need for us

Round 5: Tyrus Thompson - OT - Oklahoma
- we NEED depth at OT, as we've seen behind Strief is a revolving door named Bryce Harris

Round 6: Miles Dieffenhach - OG - Penn State
- has an ACL tear and is out for the season, but prior to that was considered a possible 1st day, early 2nd day pick.

Round 7: David Cobb - RB - Minnesota
- currently the #8 ranked RB in college football in terms of rushing yards from scrimmage with 1350 and a 5.3 YPC average. Also has 11 TDs and there's still a couple games to play.

Really like David Cobb

Halo 11-18-2014 10:30 PM

Re: 2015 draft??

The Saints should draft linebackers and defensive backs in every round. Oh I forgot, we need to replenish the o-line...Would be nice to have some of those bounty draft picks back that were stolen by gOdhELL!

Re: 2015 draft??

I am sure this will be controversial, but if we are high enough in the draft I want Amari Cooper. Colston is probably gone after this season. It's the perfect opportunity to change the dynamic of this offense. I also wouldn't mind something as drastic as letting go of Evans and drafting a guard high. Again, this offense is as stale and predictable as it gets these days. We need to get some younger bodies on offense, pronto.

I'm not saying ignore the defense, but almost the exact same bunch of players was one of the top defenses in the league in 2013. We have a lot of talent there, it would be dumb to just start hacking away at it. Maybe add a pass rusher, an ILB with some speed and a depth corner. But the main issue is the chemistry and coaching on this side of the ball, IMO. Maybe you have to make the tough move and let Rob Ryan move on.

Re: 2015 draft??

I wouldn't mind seeing all defense pick this year with maybe one o-lineman for depth and next year go big for offensive picks. I say next year(2016 draft) for the offense as both Evans and Grubbs contracts will be at a low point of dead money by then. Let Lelito cement the C job next year with a pair of veteran G next too him and then replace at least one of them with young blood so the line is not completely up in the air with new players.

lee909 11-19-2014 03:53 AM

Re: 2015 draft??

Wouldn't mind spending our first two picks on two of

Randy Gregory (OLB)
In 2014, he has 37 tackles with six tackles for a loss, 5.5 sacks, one forced fumble, three passes broken up and one interception despite basically missing two games.

Shane Ray(OLD/DE)
Ray has 12 sacks, 45 tackles, 14 tackles for a loss and two forced fumbles.

Vic Beasley OLB
In 2014, Beasley has eight sacks, 21 tackles, 12.5 tackles for a loss, one pass batted and one forced fumble

Denzel Perryman(ILB) 72 tackles, two forced fumbles, five tackles for a loss, four passes broken up, one interception and a sack.
Eric Kendricks(OLB/ILB)
In 2014, Kendricks has 114 tackles with six tackles for a loss, one forced fumble, one sack, two passes broken up, two interceptions and one sack

Benardrick McKinney(OLB/IB) 6'5 get in the passing lanes
n 2014, McKinney has 55 tackles, 6.5 tackles for a loss, three sacks, three passes broken up and a forced fumble

A.J Johnson(Round 3)
n 2014 with 96 tackles, 8.5 tackles for a loss, an interception, two passes batted, one sack and two forced fumbles (one on kick coverage).
They would offer up some much needed speed and tackling in the LBs. Might put a stop to those long runs we too much off

Re: 2015 draft??

Love that draft except for Perrymen, I've watched him a lot and he never stands out to me.

Vic Beasley in the first I'll be jumping for joy. I also really like Shane Ray and Leonard Floyd.

Re: 2015 draft??

I agree about getting a pair of lb.'s in the draft but we need a stud 3-4 NT to get pressure to make things work, we don't have 1. Pick#1 needs to be a NT.

I wouldn't spend a One on a NT, a top LB, yes...

One of these two are what I'd hope for in the coming draft as I've got 'em on my board at a mid-first round pick for us as the season keeps drifting like it is; we should be in a position to get one...

Re: 2015 draft??

John Jenkins looked good last year, wether it injuries or he needs more snaps to get himself sorted im not sure. I can't see Bunkley getting cut as though it saves $3ml of cap space we would be paying him the same to play elsewhere.
I'd take a late flyer or pick up a few UDFA as see if we can find somebody but its a position i can see being left a year

Anyone you think stands out at NT
Shelton been getting sacks and standing up to the run so far

Melvin Lewis*, NT, Kentucky
Height: 6-4. Weight: 320.
Projected 40 Time: 5.44.
Projected Round (2015): 5-7.
11/15/14: Lewis has had some impressive play at times in the 2014 season. While Bud Dupree and Za'Darius Smith get more attention, Lewis has caused disruption at the point of attack. He had an impressive game against Florida, and the Gators really struggled to block him. In 2014, Lewis has 32 tackles with two tackles for a loss and .5 sacks.

Lewis took a redshirt with Kentucky last year after spending 2012 as a junior college standout at Fullerton College (California), a JUCO program known for producing great talent. Lewis has a serious combination of size, strength and quickness. He needs to develop his overall game and get more consistent.

I wanted NT Daniel McCullers and Louis Nix III and was shouting for Tiny Richardson late last year though so who am i to judge

This years draft, I don't think there's one worthy of a first rounder.

build the lines early; my only exception would be:

Height: 6-5. Weight: 249.

Personally, I'm OK with Lelito going forward at Center. WE've done well with small school prospects and in Lelitos two starts, he faired well. I can see improvement in him going forward

Same here
He should get next year to show if he can do the job while we fill more glaring issues this year

Re: 2015 draft??

If we can shed some money and create some cap space, which we always tend to do, I'd love to send a 2nd round pick for one of Bowman or Borland. Unless someone is moved outside, something has got to give. I wish we would have drafted Borland. Don't really need the cap space for the latter.

One of these years, the Saints will hopefully take draft weekend off, put us all up in a Doubletree Thursday-Saturday and we'll handle the draft for them.

We would be at each others throats in minutes

I might re-read the draft day thread from last year, especially the 4th round onwards. Myself and a few others were livid

Re: 2015 draft??

1) CB
2) ILB
3) G
4) WR
5) OLB
6) CB
7) NT

Pick up the fifth year option on Ingram. That frees us up from drafting a RB this year. We let one of our guards go and firm up the line with that move. Correct the secondary woes with an early draft pick at corner and ILB. This should address our deficiencies.

The Saints draft well when they pick earlier in the round.......but not so much when we have a good team and consistently pick at the bottom of the round.

Best player available at every pick. Don't give any picks away to move up and no duplicate position picks. What about QB? We need help there too. I find it hard to believe Drew will stay competitive two more years.

Re: 2015 draft??

lets see if the draft was today we would be picking 11 and the way injuries are piling up who knows. right now our best defense might just be a running game. so lets see odds are WR Kevin White wins out. praying for Brandon Scherff, OT, Iowa but if we pick this high i wish we would trade down, get picks and go with Benardrick McKinney. Yet again another BUT this is the saints we are talking about. But i am doing it

1 - 20 - Benardrick McKinney ILB Miss. St
Go with the freak and see what they do with him inside or outside. odds are outside and pray they do not screw up yet another LB

***Trade result *****

2a - Kevin Johnson CB Wake Forest
Also one of the top 3 man cover CB.

2b - Jake Fisher, ROT Oregon
Say hello to the new ROT for the NFL to stop the dual speed rushers out to stop the pass happy rules that are the CFL oppsss sorry NFL. size athletic and solid all around blocker.

3c - Hroniss Grasu, C, Oregon - experience in a fast-paced zone based offense.

********

4- 107 - Vince Mayle WR Washington State
Here is a nice basketball to WR project player. good speed but solid quickness and hopes. big improvements all around this year with the kid

5- 139 - A.J. Johnson ILB Tennesse
how far does he drop and is he the next ILB to fall out of the draft?

6- 171 - ?
7-203 - ?

Jake Smith OG/OC Louisville
Tech sound can play all three inside positions. Boring pick but i like these type picks. nothing wrong with a solid swing man on the inside

Maurice Falls OLB East Craolina
what freaks rise and what player drops like a rock? Right now he is dropping like a rock. lets see if he can recover from preseason over hype. he is a freak, 6' 3" 247 4.47 ???? say what? vertical 36" squat 645 and bench press 425 pounds. does he have what it takes upstairs to become a OLB in the NFL?

Couple of players i really like and fight with needs over talent are

Jeremy Langford, RB Michigan St. - best blocking back in the country
Laken Tomlinson, OG, Duke - this kid is all about massive upside,

I'm iffy on taking any offensive player from the Big Ten unless its Ohio State(I was critical before but appears there's a big difference between Meyer and Tressel) or Michigan State. Three of first four I like especially 4 after today's scoreless 4 quarters in the VT/WF game, I would say that could be a gold mine for getting some defensive guys. The receiver I was more thinking of is Langford. Also, I think Rob Smith could be a decent pick for CB. He plays for Arkansas and anyone who can light up a game in the SEC has to be considered.

Armstead was from a division II school so maybe we should look for another OT from one of those schools? As for RB, Mike Davis is my pick he'll probably be behind Yeldon and Gordon in RB ranks.

Best Defense is a Good Offense...

We've got to get our O-Line Cock-Strong Young...

Just shoving the ball down the opponents throats at will...

Our Defense has been good at times but wears down because of the Time of Possession...

Balance is the Key to Victory...

Dont agree at all
The o-line needs changed but you only have to look at the best teams in the NFC(seahawks,Arizona and 49ers) all have good defenses

Gotta go O-line with 2 of the top 3 I would think. We will have almost 18 million tied up in our Guards next year.
