Should we fire RR?

this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; Payton lost the fire. But you had better believe that the fire is back and Payton will right this ship....

Re: Should we fire RR?

Yeah the D has been pretty poor for most of the year

However let's not forget the Payton's vaunted offense, scored 14 points vs the 31st ranked passing defense, aswell as letting them get 5 sacks and 4 turnovers

Bottom line is, if we scored a TD in the 2 min drill we win the game, but once again Brees throws a back breaking pick.

Positional coaches definitely need to go, I've got a feeling that Ryan will be given another year.

Ryan wasn't out there missing tackles and not being able to stay with receivers, thats what happens when 3/4ths of your D are late round picks and UDFA's.

Re: Should we fire RR?

Defense did more than expected against atl.....if offense can't sustain and keep the defense on the field all game yesterday's game will look like it did......d held atl in check for nearly the first half while offense stunk it up....so I say give him another chance at least half season next year he did work a miracle with this d with the same positions coach he deserves a pass to me

I think our offense made our defense much worse than it is. Not saying that they shouldn't get a lot of the blame but I would give him one more year.

Re: Should we fire RR?

I don't know what the final numbers will look like at the end of the year, but the EYEBALL test tells me that, this defense is probably every bit as bad as the 2012 "Worst In History" unit.

The only real difference I see, is the 2012 defense gave up a few more colossal failures on epic big ugly plays in each game. (RGIII's coming out party, the big Jamaal Charles run, the Vincent Jackson pass where Malcolm Jenkins chased him down on the goal line, DeAngelo Williams breaking loose for a 65-yard run, etc. etc). These few plays, of course made the yardage totals go up, the stats were a bit more horrible, but in actual practice the two defenses of 2012 and 2014 are basically both the same: completely impotent, when you get right down to it.

Think about what you saw. The defense this year was the exact same as 2012! The other team would line up, get in their base offense, run, pass, scramble, pick us apart. They'd do whatever they wanted to do, and strut down the field to score, without any push back or opposition from the Saints.

No turnovers, no game changing plays, no decisive sacks, no nothing. No adjustments were ever needed from the other team's QB or coaches, EVER. Whether it was 1st down, 2nd down, or 3rd down, late in the game or early, it didn't matter. The result was always the same. The other team would just march down the field and score whatever points they needed to score. Again and again, this defense could NOT stop anybody. Just like 2012.

The only truly stout games they had were against QBs who were injured: Rodgers (hamstring), and Roethlesberger (hand). And in both those games, before the injuries happened or when the injuries wore off (1st half Green Bay and 4th quarter Steelers), the other team moved the ball pretty much at will against the pitiful Saints. Oh, and they looked good against the Bears. I guess that is something?

I don't know whether you fire Ryan or not, but at minimum he definitely needs to be taken behind the woodshed and roughed up a bit. On paper it would seem strange if Spagnuolo got the sack for his bad defense, and Ryan gets a pass for his, but who knows.
