Man... I didn't realize there was that huge of a discrepancy from top to bottom. I think I read an article a week or two ago about Loomis finding more value in trading up. Maybe we should stop that.

i still like the way the pats do things. let solid players walk that want to much money. sign some mid level free agents with a proven track record and put the savings in the bank.

a accumulate picks to address depth upgrades

when the core is reestablished then go out and spend the big bucks on solid impact players

they do not let the team be held hostage by just a few players.

get the depth first
let replaceable players walk as fa and get the comp picks
get mid level fa to fill the gaps the bench can not
draft to replenish the depth
then bang FA
they plan this out better than any team in the nfl.

Of course it helps that NE plays in one of the weakest divisions in football; they can afford to develop younger players because they have time.

granted but you still gotta make the run in the playoffs.

On the flip side that is still my #1 issue with the Byrd signing. probably no division in the NFL has had such poor QB play or revolving door at QB like the AFC East. not saying he is not any good just a point to make me question the money spent

Now the way i see the pats system working is this

throw a bunch of darts in the draft. get a starter and a solid back up your ahead of the game

go into FA and plug the holes you missed the previous year.

play the season

repeat

they do not care about missing on 12 if they get at least one. milk a couple till you can replace them in the next couple of years. via draft or FA

mid level FA is their meat and potatoes

draft is the gravy and/or the salt and pepper

Makes sense. We fill holes with free agents so we never get comp picks, and we always trade up, not down. Not surprising

2 Super Bowls in the top. 1 Super Bowl in the bottom. Doesn't seem to matter.

How about 5 AFC championship appearances since 06 3 Superbowl appearances and 1 win. Could've easily had all 3. And thats just New England.

What's your argument for Cincinnati, St. Louis, and Philly?
