72 S T A T .] PUBLIC LAW 85-426-MAY 23, 1958 133
Public Law 85-424 May 22, 1958 Public Law 85-425 AN ACT To increase the monthly rates of pension payable to widows and former widows of deceasetl veterans of the Spanish-American War, Civil War, Indian War, and Mexican War, and provide i)enslons to widows of veterans who served in the military or naval forces of the Confederate States of America during the Civil War. Be it enacted hy the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the Veterans' l:Jenefits Act of 1957 (Public Law 85-56) is amended: (3) Section 432 is amended by adding at the end thereof the following new subsection: "(e) For the purpose of this section, and section 433, the term 'veteran' includes a person who served in the military or naval forces of the Confederate States of America during the Civil War, and the term 'active, military or naval service' includes active service in such forces." (( CONFEDERATE FORCES VETERANS "SEC. 410. The Administrator shall pay to each person who served in the military or naval forces of the Confederate States of America during the Civil War a monthly pension in the same amounts and subject to the same conditions as would have been applicable to such http://www.gpo.gov/fdsys/pkg/STATUTE...E-72-Pg133.pdf In short all confederate soldiers were recognized as US military. then there is this Public Law 85-811 August 28, 1958 ^^ ^ ^ '^ [S- 3882] To amend the Act of July 1, 1948, chapter 791 (24 U. S. C. 279a), providing for the procurement and supply of Government headstones and markers. G o v e r n m e n t headstones. Be it enacted hy the Senate and House of Representati'ves of the United States of America in Congress assenibled, That the first senprocurement, tence of the first section of the Act of July 1, 1948, chapter 791 (24 62 Stat. 1215. ^ g Q 279a), is amended to read as follows: "That the Secretary of the Army is authorized and directed to furnish, when requested, appropriate Government headstones or markers at the expense of the ITnited States for the unmarked graves of the following: "(1) Soldiers of the Union and Confederate Armies of the Civil War. Approved August 28, 1958. http://www.gpo.gov/fdsys/pkg/STATUTE...E-72-Pg977.pdf Both acts were to help in the healing process of this country. So removal of confederate officers is really the removal of American soldiers. great example of how a relocation of a flag can lead to breaking of federal laws. So this confederacy war path needs to go to court. federal laws are being broken and the spirit of heeling a nation in which these laws were passed is unraveling. We are heading back 100 years in race relations in this country not forwards. |

Re: Now The Symbol Of New Orleans Is Considered Racist
Idea to end debate and make everyone equal.
Everyone should dress alike. Screw hair styling - require shaving heads. Homes should become housing with all furnishing the same. Eliminate individuality and punish for personality. Cities should be bulldozed. We need to ensure everyone and everything is equal. Then no one will suffer from feeling oppressed because we will all be oppressed. No one offended. Reminds me of a few things Does it remind you of anything? |

Re: Now The Symbol Of New Orleans Is Considered Racist
This is now a mute issue. Sounds like the City and all those that want the symbols removed are now going to cash in on slavery yet again. So much for complaining about old wounds. time to make us some money
Slave ship museum? wth is going on down there I would think if adding Slavery attractions to the tourist industry would only be accented even more things like Lee Circle. The whole story is told. Hypocrisy taken to the extreme. If this does not get you a legal reason to block any and all removals of civil war veterans I do not know what would. Inclusion is better than subtraction when dealing with equality. lawyers hate it but the truth is plain to see |
