Surtain is definitely as good a corner as there is out there baron, but his price is too high and they will not take AB cause the only reason they are trying to trade him is to cut payroll. Now AB does not make as much as he does, but that will put us in a bad position with the cap. And if he redoes a deal to come here, why wouldn;t he redo a deal to stay there? It just doesn\'t work.

I was looking at our cap number as of July 15, 04. We were 11 million under the cap at that time. We still had to sign rookies so we were probably left with 6 million or so. MM may have decreased that a bit more, say, by another 1 million. Thus, we were left with 5 million in cap room.
Now, this is all speculation, but maybe we can learn something. If I understand where the cap number comes from, it is the actual figure that each team receives from the sharing of TV revenue. Therefore, Benson doesn\'t have to generate any money whatsoever to pay the full cap. He gets a check for that. Where does the cap room go if not spent on players? In his pocket. If that is a correct way of analyzing the way the cap works, then is anyone starting to figure out why we never go after bigtime FAs? Why Loomis, a reknowned capologist, is one of Benson\'s closet buddies? So Benson gets 20 mil from the state, 5 mil from the cap he didn\'t use, plus all the profits generated from everything else after he pays for the staff and office personnel. I don\'t have any idea how much the profits might have been, but Benson might have easily cleared 35-40 million or more last year. In effect the state\'s payments are doubling his profits - apparently he can\'t subsist on a measley 20 million. Why did I post this here? This particular CB wants more than the 6+ million he is already shceduled to make. Now, does anyone still think we\'re about to spend 7 or 8 million on this one guy? |

But I will talk about the \"cap\" or ANY other thing that is Saints or football related. Beleive me, I know what the rules are. And I follow them very closely. But, I kind of fell of the horse by responding to saintwhodi. I guess everyone has a breaking point. Or is that boiling point? Anyway, I\'m over it. I\'m sure me and saintwhodi will be the best of friends one day. Just look at myself, WhoDat, and Gator.. We were fierce enemies back in the day.... :P Oh, and me and BrooksMustGo went a few rounds ourselves. |
