He won't take a discount and I understand it. As a Saints fan, I wish he would. But, I certainly won't think worse of him if he didn't. He's not the problem. He's still at the top of his game. The Saints defensive talent and coaching are the problem.
The problem with him staying with the Saints is, with his salary, the Saints will have to strike gold in the draft or low-rent free agency. Both are highly unlikely. Which will lead to another season like 2015. Not good enough regardless of how Drew plays. Let Brees move on. Get draft picks for Payton. Hire Marrone and a completely new defensive staff. Let McNown, Flynn and Grayson battle it out for the QB job. Draft the best OG, OLB, DE, DT, TE, and WR available. Stay away from free agency unless it's the deal of the century. Get the cap right and move forward. |

If the real Lewis comes back our starting corners are golden. We will have Anthony in the middle and Cam on one end. If we can just get another good pass rusher so they cant always put a back to chip on Cam or move a TE on him our D is set. Our safeties are good enough with a little pressure on the opposing QB. I don't think we are that far away. As far as offense I think we are an average guard and a WR away from reclaiming the #1 offense.
