Re-structuring Brees lets him put more money in the bank immediately and extends that cap hit over 2-3 more years to make it respectable and allow us a rebuild. Anyone wanting to see Grayson right now and Brees traded is a crack pot in my opinion. This can be fixed with the right draft and some shrewd FA signings.
If he would restructure over 5 years and play say 2 more years and the retire. What would happen then? Would there be a cap hit?

Here's a very simple example...

He’s due 20 million this season (He’s already been paid the original 10 million in bonus)

Lets say his market value is 20 million

We re-sign him to a 5 year deal, with 25 million in bonus money, its really a 3 year deal..
His cap hits are now…

2016 – 5 million + 10 (cap hit 15 million)
2017 – 5 million + 10 (cap hit 15 million)
2018 – 5 million + 10 (cap hit 15 million)

At this point he has pocketed 55 million from the Saints.

2019 – 5 million + 10 (cap hit 15 million, if cut it costs us 10 million in dead money)
2020 – 5 million + 10 (cap hit 15 million, if cut it costs us 5 million in dead money)
Rugby Saint II and darksoul35 like this.
