I don't see how you pass on this guy.
I dunno. As others have mentioned, this is a very deep year for DT. Mike Mayock recently said as many as 12 could carry a first round grade. I would rather see them go DE, LB or G in the first and then pick up a DT in the second or third.

We have to rebuild the D. We do anything with that pick other than this guy then everyone should be looking for a new job!!!

You build the D from the inside out. You get a this guy and then we start working out from there.

I think the lesson we can take from the ones who have been winning the SB's is DEFENSE!!! Rebuild this damn D FINALLY and then we can start adding to the O. QB and G/T next season for sure but right now everything we go goes to D.

I feel you and I felt the same way but we need a LB'er badly and if the draft really is that deep at DT then we better grab a guy who can stop the TE.

Re: Trade Down at 12?

I wrote a thread about this earlier . The Rams and Texas might have to move ahead of the Eagles to get a QB they / value . IMHO I would move back to #15 for a third rd pick. Players could also be trade bait as the Rams are stacked on D. The Texans would have to pony up quite a bit more like a 2 and a three.
There's a lot of talent available in the 2nd rd . We also have lots of spots to fill and draft picks are salary cap helpful. After FA we will be able to determine more about draft needs. The Rams scenario is much more palatable. However, there will be lots of players in the second rd that could improve our talent level. Things will get very interesting after the combine . Can't wait. Hope springs eternal for the ever suffering Saints fan.

We're talking about a possible franchise QB, if the Rams want a QB that bad, I'd force them to part with a 2nd rounder or possibly Alec Ogletree.

Alec Ogletree? boy that brings up old draft wounds But cap hit?

I would settle for two of the better backups, WLB Mark Barron and CB Trumaine Johnson. Two solid up and coming young pups that would be an upgrade and cap friendly for at least the next 4 years.

Re: Trade Down at 12?

Trading down would be a good idea this year. We have a lot of positions that need filling and we need as many picks as we can to do it. We lack cap space and the draft is the best place to fix our problems.

If we can replicate last years draft with a hit on ALL draft picks then I would be willing to trade down and get an additional early round pick. Ireland seems to have the eye for defense that Payton has for offense.

If we can nail two front seven picks in the draft we can compete with anyone if we stay healthy. We aren't as far away as some people think. If we had just fielded our starters throughout the year we'd have a winning record and possibly made a little run in the playoffs. We have holes but some of our depth will step into a starting role.(think of Snead last year)
The schedule looks tougher than last year but so does our team.
