Jerell Adams, TE, South Carolina
Height: 6-5. Weight: 244. Arm: 34. Hand: 8.75.
40 Time: 4.64.
Projected Round (2015): 2-4.
3/5/16: Adams had an excellent combine workout to really help his draft stock. He had the fastest 40 time of any tight end there and showed some nice athleticism in the field work.

Adams took over for Rory Anderson in 2015 and had a good season despite poor quarterback play at South Carolina. Adams totaled 28 catches for 421 yards with three touchdowns on the year. As a junior (21-279-1) and sophomore (13-187-2), he had modest contributions. Adams had a solid week at the Senior Bowl, and given the weak tight end class, he could be drafted earlier than expected.
Bolded is not good; I'd hate to use a high to mid round pick on a TE when there is so much defensive talent this year

Like the move, there was no one in the draft that could be a starter week one in my opinion

Fleener isn't the issue. The contract is awful.

I know there is some magic baked into the contract with loom is around but there is no way he is worth 7mil per year. We could have some UDFA TE come in and do fairly we'll with Brees throwing the ball.

Fleener might be ok, but he isn't worth close to what we just paid.

Another target for Drew. I like the move as well. Just hope we get something done on the offensive and defensive lines.

I'm guessing the lines will have to wait until the draft...

Maybe a little too much money, but at least we got younger. Will miss Watson's leadership big-time though.

Re: Saints Sign Coby Fleener 5 year deal

Yikes, another bad grade:

Coby Fleener (Saints): D+

Last year, the Saints knew that they had to rebuild their offensive line and defense, even if it meant sacrificing their pass-catching tight end, so they sent Jimmy Graham to the Seahawks and acquired Max Unger and draft picks. A year later, with their offensive line struggling and their defense still a mess, it seems like they just gave up and went after a less impressive receiving tight end. Fleener isn't close to Graham's equal as a field-stretching receiver, and the Saints did just fine without that sort of weapon in their offense last year, turning Ben Watson into a viable tight end. After losing Watson to the Ravens, the Saints took what precious little cap space they had and decided to use it on Fleener's five-year, $36-million deal. It's reminiscent of their bizarre decision to invest heavily in running backs (of all things) last year, and speaks to just how flawed the organizational process has gotten in New Orleans.

Couldn't have said it better myself. This decision is mind boggling. I have officially lost faith in Loomis with these continual awful FA decisions and contracts.
