Saints Sign Coby Fleener 5 year deal

1 Attachment(s)
When the Colts re-signed tight end Dwayne Allen, it left the question of whether they’d be able to hold onto the other tight end that they drafted a round ahead of Allen in 2012.

The answer is no. The Saints announced Wednesday that they have signed Coby Fleener to a five-year contract.

Fleener, No. 64 on PFT’s list of this year’s top free agents, was a second-round pick in 2012 and has been a leading receiving option over the last three years in Indianapolis.

Fleener is 6'6" 251 +/- lbs.

Watson is 6'3" 255 +/- lbs.

Seems pretty fast for a TE also, looking forward to seeing him in our offense!

Watson is better at blocking, but Fleener is more athletic and much faster

I'm excited about this! I think it definitely lessens the need for another WR.

I thought blocking was the main problem with Watson?

I ain't mad at it. Brees will make him into a Pro Bowler. I think Chris Long and James Laurinaitis will be our next moves...although IDK how much I would want either one.

The folks in Indy are gonna miss this dude...especially Andrew Luck.

Coby is a WR in a TE's body. I likey :bounce:

Saints sign TE Coby Fleener (5 years, $36 million): KIELBASA SLIPS THROUGH THE FINGERS MILLEN Grade
I wonder how it feels to be a Colts fan right now. On one hand, they must be very depressed that they still have the incompetent Ryan Grigson running things. On the other hand, they have to be cracking up upon seeing the numbers Coby Fleener received from the Saints.

This signing is horrible. Aside from perhaps Vernon Davis, no tight end drops more passes than Coby Fleener. I'm sure he'll post some great numbers with Drew Brees throwing the ball to him, but he'll absolutely kill his new team with some untimely drops. Then again, maybe he won't be a fantasy monster, given that he couldn't produce with Andrew Luck, even when Dwayne Allen was out of the lineup with his injury issues.

This is an easy Millen. I don't understand what the Saints saw in him to make them believe that he's worth more than $7 million per year. Fleener, an average starter at best, would've been overpaid had he gotten half as much.

This is ridiculous. How on earth can you guys be happy with throwing 36 million dollars on a freaking TE? First off if there is any significant type of signing bonus then we have not learned from our last rash signings which has us in this cap strapped situation to begin with. Secondly Fleener is not a great TE. Unreal.

TERRIBLE - like the guy above said.

I absolutely love this move. Fleener has the size to become Jimmy Graham version two with better blocking skills and less injury prone. He is a very intelligent player and will quickly become a favorite of Brees.

I will miss Ben Watson. He was a very solid player and by far a better person. I wish him nothing but the best, but this is a huge upgrade.

He had 2 more TD's in 2014 than Watson had with his best season last year. Oh and that's with being thrown 20 less passes, just sayin'

So your saying Fleener had 2 more TD's than Watson with 20 less receptions?

Brees must be smiling from ear to ear, can't wait to see them carve teams up

Not sure how I feel about this signing. The Colts didn't seem to concerned about his leaving. Guy looks the part but production not great for the amount of money we gave him?

Just checked the stats on this website about dropped passes Dropped Passes: 2015 NFL Season

According to this, from 54 targets, Coby Dropped a WHOLE 3 passes.

Calvin Johnson, Ben Watson and countless others dropped way more so I'm not worried at the minute.

I haven't seen a lot of him so can't say if we overpaid or not.

I feel like that type of money could have been spent on making the OL better or helping the defense. Hopefully he pays off but just seems to be a bit rich for a TE....

They must see Jimmy Graham in him... shored him up for 5 years. I am ok with that. Get guys you know are going to be around 3-5 years. This one and done sucks.
