The 3-4 isn\'t some kind of \"magical\" defense that allows a MLB to post a lot of tackles. It still involves a MLB diagnosing plays, getting through blockers, then wrapping up and bringing the ball carrier down.

I really don\'t think making the switch to the 4-3 is that difficult. It ain\'t exactly rocket science. In fact, in the 4-3 the defensive tackles are suppose to keep the linemen off the MLB and allow him to make plays.

I don\'t know-there has to be something to the schemes because that is why players choose teams (that and money)

at sw... surprised you forgot when Ravens won the Superbowl the ran a 4-3. Boulware, Lewis, and Sharper with 4 DL in front Adams, the funny Spanish guy, McCrary, and one more(forgot his name). Howard would fit into there system because the 3-4 alignment needs the lineman to not only be able to rush the passer, but also stop the run. He fits more there than Jason Babin on the front line and Babin is a pretty good darn player.

And I do recall in Baltimore before Ray Lewis won the NFL Defensive Player of the Year award, Sharper in some peoples eyes were just as good as he was. I also felt the same way too. Maybe we can get something done here. Honestly in my opinion, I\'d rather have Sharper than Hartwell. Sharper not only excelled next to Lewis, but he stayed at that pace without Lewis.

Everyone is entitled to be stupid, but some abuse the privilege.

All little common sense goes a long way.

papz, :cussing: you are right, I did forget about that 4-3. that other guy was Siragusa, italian.Let\'s explore Sharper\'s difference making numbers though in Balt.

1997 Baltimore Ravens 16 67 53.0 14 3 1 4 4.0 4 0 1
1998 Baltimore Ravens 16 54 45.0 9 1 0 0 0.0 0 0 3
1999 Baltimore Ravens 16 95 78.0 17 4 0 0 0.0 0 0 2
2000 Baltimore Ravens 16 71 58.0 13 0 1 45 45.0 45 0 3
2001 Baltimore Ravens 16 108 77.0 31 6 0 0 0.0 0 0 10

Oh yeah, that\'s big time. Hartwell has blown that away yearly in Baltimore, and he is much younger if we are gonna get someone. I do agree Howard would fit a 3-4 better than Babin, but Howard is also a younger player than Sharper. Like I said, I am on board if we get something else with Sharper, like a 3rd. Why the disagreement when I am on board?

I\'m well aware of the differences in the 3-4 and the 4-3.

I think it\'s harder for an inside LB in the 3-4 compared to the 4-3. In fact, I know it is.

But, regardless of what anyone thinks, Jamie Sharper would bring much needed experience to our young LB group. And his production from the past few years, regardless of scheme, speaks for itself.

I\'ve never seen a \"scheme\" make a tackle. I\'ve never seen a \"scheme\" make a pick. I\'ve never seen a \"scheme\" make a sack!!

What I have seen are players who know how a \"scheme\" is suppose to work and they put themselves in position to make a play.

Now, if anyone has any evidence that Sharper isn\'t intelligent enough of he doesn\'t have the physical ability to adapt to the 4-3 ... then I\'m all ears...

Well the point is moot because if he is of any quality the Saints won\'t get him....not when young studs like Roman Phifer and Ronald McKinnon are still out there.

saintswhodi -

I was just responding to some comments on the board. Not neccessarily you..

The post said the Texans were considering trading him. In no way do I want to trade Howard for the guy. Not even if they gave us a 3rd to boot.

But, I would seriously consider giving them a 2nd or 3rd round pick for the guy.
