Is Sean Paytons Job safe if we miss the playoffs?

this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; I've just been thinking today about where our team is headed, sure preseason cannot tell us where this team will go this season, we can only wait and see. 2014 Preseason = 0 and 4 2015 preseason = 0 and ...

I've just been thinking today about where our team is headed, sure preseason cannot tell us where this team will go this season, we can only wait and see.

2014 Preseason = 0 and 4

2015 preseason = 0 and 4

Both of those years, we started the regular season 0-4 and finished 7-9, simple not good enough when the division was not exactly loaded with talent.

So, is Sean Paytons job at risk if we start on a losing streak or miss the playoffs? I think it has to be, it would be 3 years of missing the playoffs and 5 losing seasons out of Paytons 10.

As much as I loved beating the falcons last year, I felt kind of embarrassed that Sean Payton sprinted onto the field cheering about our 7th win, with it being the last game of season!

Couple that together with many coaches who year after year fail at their job, mainly the strength and conditioning as we seem to always be the most injured roster throughout the NFL.

I personally think SP does not finish his contract, if you look at him talking to the media after the preseason losses, he looks exhausted all the time and like he just doesn't care anymore. I miss the guy that would make sure no player was comfortable whilst underperforming, a guy that would deal the finishing strike when a team was on it's heels.

What do you all think?

You never know, SP was just an OC before we signed him.

If our D stinks again the only way I see him being able to stay if he gets rid of the good ole boys and finds a better D staff but I do like our DB coach.

Its not just about that.
Coaches can only last so long before things go stale snd i think the past 3-4 years have been very stale in all departments. You can still respect everything a coach has done ehile thinking if things dont quickly turn round a change is needed

I don't think there is a shot in hell that Payton doesn't at least finish out his current contract.

You think Payton doesn't know this? That's why he went back to square one this year. He has treated this off-season just like 2006. That theme has been repeated over and over. There are only three players left from the 2009 roster. To that vast majority of the current roster Payton is a fresh new face.
