No matter who is right and who is wrong, there's no need to jump on someone's opinion, he never said he had anything to do with negotiations, saying the "I would limit it to this amount" is a phrase of speech. Every fan has the right to say what they think is a fair deal and not get blasted by yourself with some sarcastic response.

Just pointing out the pervasive tendency of some that our opinions have any real value. I know mine don't when it come to management decisions. That's why I never get bent out of shape by who we sign and for how much, or who we do and do not draft. Opinions are free to share, but the value of them to the real world are pretty much meaningless. More of that Pretend GM stuff.

The problem comes in when the people in the real world do not conform to all the Pretend GM's wishes the Pretend GM's start *****ing and moaning and it makes the act of trying to enjoy the real world less tolerable for the non-Pretend GM's.

Bree's has incredible work ethic, so his age doesn't bother me. Give him a good online and I bet you'd change your mind...

I agree about his work ethics, undeniable. But so is father time, undeniable. A 4yr contract puts him at 42 1/2 yrs. old. Payton is all about an aerial attack, stretching the field and so on, for Brees to play at even a decent level at that age would be more of a ground and pound O with short to intermediate passing game. I don't see it. I want be changing my mind wheather the Saints sign him to a big contract or not, but I will root for the Saints with or without Brees pulling the trigger even if I think it's a good move or not.

Yea dude. A lot of dead money falls off next year. Pair that with the rise in cap money and we will be in the best cap situation we will have been in years. Even with Brees contract.

The problem is that too many of us base what we believe about the cap on what the media hacks say. I used to work with those media hacks and most of them can't balance a checkbook and they surely have no clue about how the cap works. ;)

It depends if the FO wants what Brees is asking for.

I will say this we are not prepared for life beyond Brees and that's pretty sad. That's why we will never be associated with other teams and always have our ancient history thrown in our face when we are not winning. Down the road no one is ever gonna want to go out of their way in the media and call Brees one of the all time greats just because "he made the saints relevant unlike any other QB". Just goes to show that we have not evolved and people are right to put us down because they have been right in saying we are a fluke.

In any case I think his willingness to restart negotiations means he really wants to remain and retire a Saint. There was a point last year where I wondered if he was ready to get away from Saints/Payton.
Looks like he wants to make sure he is set financially before he takes a snap from behind our offensive line.

Good hell man. That's a hell of a negative stance on stuff. I get being realistic, but I don't think "fluke" is the word that I'd choose to describe the Saints.
