That is a play where at other times you could throw it low and protect the receiver, but there was a D-lineman right in front of Drew with his hand in the air, so I'm pretty sure he threw it high on purpose. And that was a mistake. Never throw high into traffic.
I have watched the play several times. Here it is on this page.

From the time when Brees begins his release until the ball reaches Snead three seconds elapse. As the ball nears Snead, Berry is still behind Snead and moving pretty much at full speed and dives toward the ball and gets the tip. In that three second window Berry was most likely four to five yards behind Snead at the beginning of the Brees release. You can try to put that on Brees if you wish, but it was a tremendous play by Berry as the announcers point out.

Re: Bree's lost a step?

After watching the play a couple things become apparent.

Ingram was wide open, Brees panicked as Jahri completely lost his man.
Brees threw off his back foot and the ball hung in the air, a split second earlier or if Brees had located Ingram and it's a first down.

Just overall a bad play, multiple people could be blamed on this play, Brees is not exempt from blame but he just panicked because he had pressure coming right up the gut as he finished his drop back.

My blame goes on Jahri for the awful blocking.

I only saw it live once, but it was in the middle of my girls college showcase fastpitch tourney, but yeah wish that play turned out different. I'm ready for Seattle game now.

Hey, BusDriver, do you own both VW's in your avatar and profile pics?

I didn't say it wasn't a good play by Berry. If defenders were never anywhere near the ball and didn't make any plays, we wouldn't be talking about bad offensive plays. That doesn't make the throw a good one, either. I didn't go back and watch the replay. I'm going strictly by memory, and I know that he had a lineman in his face and threw high into traffic, in the middle of the field. That's a big no-no in this game, and we all know that. You said it took three seconds from the time he began his release to the time it reached Snead. I can't confirm that, having not looked at the replay. But if that's true, that is a LONG time to release a ball and throw it 10 or 15 yards. That would indicate he lofted it up too much, which only makes it even more of a mistake.

But I don't honestly remember the velocity of the throw. I just know throwing high over the middle is a mistake. Taking nothing away from Berry... But Berry doesn't make that play if Drew makes a better decision. We're just analyzing one play, though. Overall, I thought Drew played pretty well, other than the numerous times he lost track of the play clock. Penalties and the Ingram fumble were the main culprits for the loss.

The defense held for the most part, by their standards, but they missed a lot of tackles that could have made their day look a lot better. So it's not like I'm blaming the loss on Brees. But the interception was a bad decision, in my opinion.

If I had a nickel for every time I heard that, the NFL would fine and suspend me.

has Brees EVER done anything wrong in your eyes? every post you make somehow circles around to Brees never being responsible for anything.

Re: Bree's lost a step?

Our offence isn't even remotely our biggest problem. Just take a look at scores against this season. Our D has no consistency whatsoever. Flashes of brilliance but miles off the consistency it needs to be. We need to make plays for the D-line whether that be in the draft or in FA. And not these ridiculously **** deals like the one we gave to Byrd.
