Losing winnable games.
So after winning 4 out of 5 games, we once again lost a very winnable game which has been happening all season.
Once again, for the third straight season a slow start has made every week crucial, literally no room for error which never works out well, especially for us. It looked like winning 4 out of 5 games, we had firmly planted ourselves in the number 2 spot. However, now the Buccaneers have won 2 division games which has given them the number 2 spot, we could reclaim it, but this team is not a team built to make a run. We continue to lose winnable games, just like the last few seasons. It is 2014 and 2015 reincarnated, we are going to suffer with inconsistency every week until major changes are made. One change that Payton can no longer ignore - Special Teams, they are very special indeed. As you know, I am more in the favour of blaming the loss on the turnovers, that doesn't however give the Special Teams a free pass. The return game is non existent We allow 40 plus yard returns 2 FG's have been blocked and returned this season. Payton can no longer ignore this, we have been saying McMahon needs to go for years, it has finally got to the point where they are costing us vital points in close games. I will continue to watch every week and have friday booked off work to watch thursday night, unfortunately though this seems to be another let's wait until next year. Starting 0-3 or 0-4 for 3 seasons straight is absolutely dire, it makes absolutely zero room for error and it magnifies every mistake. We have not won on opening day since 2013 vs falcons, that is ridiculous. If the D can continue how they did last night I would be extremely happy, 6 sacks and 2 picks is a great peformance, I just hope it wasn't entirely due to the Broncos O line and a rookie QB. |

Re: Losing winnable games.
The only consolation is that we are competitive in every game. I would much rather go down to the wire with a game than get blown out. I see
improvement in the Defensive Line but not the Secondary. The other takeaway from the Denver game is the 4 turnovers which is killer. |

Re: Losing winnable games.
Look, if Greg McMahon's job was disarming top-secret Russian nuclear bombs, and you told me that it was a very specialized skill and there were only 31 other guys out there in the whole world with the skills and guts and expertise who knew how to do that job, I'd totally believe you. There are only a certain number of guys in the world, who have become astronauts, or four-star army generals, or have climbed Everest, or who can run a four-minute mile.
But it's not like that here. It's football, there are PLENTY of great coaches out there coaching special teams, all over, and you simply can't tell me that right now there is NO ONE out there in all of the world of special teams football coaching, that is better than Greg McMahon. If you assume that the pro game of coaching is the elite best of the best, the cream of the crop, the result of competition and capitalism same as it is for the players, then based on the evidence McMahon is pretty clearly NOT among the 32 best guys in the world at it, right now. It just would not be true to say he was one of the best 32 guys at it, it's been proven false on the field, again and again over the years. Are we supposed to believe he is SO good, that he's been here over a decade and no one from the other 31 teams has ever hired him away, or even tried to hire him away? Really? There HAS To be someone out there better than McMahon to do the job on special teams. HAS to be. Payton has no valid excuse for him now. |

Re: Losing winnable games.
No matter how good there D is, that is no excuse for 4 turnovers.
Especially 2 back to back interceptions, then 2 fumbles by the same player. Michael Thomas was responsible for 3 of them, Ingram got benched for two turnovers, what happens now? |

Re: Losing winnable games.
Coming into the game, Saints were #31st in K/O return average. Watching HT and Cadet ... they aren't on the same page. Don't know when to fair catch, when to block, when to run.
All I see are negative yards, indecisiveness and our punter Morstead getting blown up by his own teammates. I just can't defend McMahon. Special teams blunders are costing this team. A change is needed at Special teams coach. |

Re: Losing winnable games.
Saints have five losses on the year...
Saints vs Raiders - LB Craig Robertson is flagged for a phantom PI call - extends Raiders drive in final moments - difference in game Saints @ G'nats - FG blocked by Giants, returned for score - difference in game Saints vs Falcons - undermanned Saints defense can't stay with Falcons offense - Falcons throttle Saints Saints @ Chiefs - Brees throws pick 6 - difference in game; Ingram fumbles at goal line - difference in game Saints vs Broncos - Saints line up for game winning PAT - blocked with illegal defensive holding play, questionable sideline play - difference in game Four of those five are very could've, would've, should've wins - but the Saints shouldn't let the games get to the point that bogus plays or bogus referees snatch defeat from the jaws of victory... Specials Teams - Joke Payton refusing to address Special Teams Coach - Joke... Leave it with this blast from the past... |
It's not that my way is the right way, I just make the right way my way...
