And that is before any bonuses are converted, which happens every year, and before the next Brees extension/restructure. The Saints could easily be looking at around $50 million in free cap for 2017.

Nope. You have that wrong. Brees' cap hit next year is only $19 million. His dead cap would be $39 million if cut today. BIG difference.

True, cut is $37, traded = $24 million.
Either way, not going to sacrifice $24m and not have a starting QB
