SAINTS DEPTH CHART :bng:

DEFENSE

DE (2) 94 - Cameron Jordan, 55 - Darryl Tapp , 76 - Mitchell Loewen

If we started the season with Tapp backing a healthy Jordan, we're good...

DT (2) 98 - Sheldon Rankins, 93 - David Onyemata, 92 - Justin Zimmer

This is the year we should see what we got with a first rounder and new D-line Coach Ryan Nielsen was hired to make sure of it; Ony can back up all along the defensive line; really like to see the Zimmer kid make the team and have an impact, it'd allow Ony to kick outside to Defensive End, lessening that priority...

NT (2) 95 - Tyeler Davison, 90 - Nick Fairley, 96 - Ashaad Mabry

Davison will likely be the true starter as the run stuffer on early downs with Fairley rotating in on passing downs; surprised we paid that much for Fairley as a rotation guy despite his productivity; this should work, for now; Mabry has a tough up-hill road...

DE (2) 57 - Alex Okafor, 58 - Obum Gwacham, 77 - D.J. Pettway, 61 - Royce LeFrance

Okafor's health and no one backing him up make this a high draft priority; Saints should look for guys with length and athleticism like Malik McDowell, Taco Charlton, Jordan Willis, Tarell Basham, Trey Hendrickson, Tanoh Kpassagnon, even T.J. Watt...

SLB (2) 50 - Stephone Anthony, 54 - Nate Stupar, 44 - Hau'oli Kikaha

Stupar stabilizes this position, but can new LBer Mike Nolan get Anthony back on track is the bigger question; Nolan has coached All-American and HOF linebackers over his long, proven results career - a real coup hiring him; Kikaha, if able to return from a third knee injury, is a linebacker, he doesn't have the physical frame to 'put his hand in the dirt' in the NFL; in DA's 4-3, he'll strictly be a third down sub-package pass rushing specialist.

MLB (2) 58 - A.J. Klein, 00 - Manti Te'o, 00 - Adam Bighill

Robertson could still end up winning this job, short of drafting Foster; but I'm with Hagan, Klein played like a Top 5 4-3 MLBer last season who just happened to be on the same team with Luke Kuechly; he'll also be what DA and Payton envisioned Laurinaitis was to be, but Klein will physically be available; Adam Bighill tops the unofficial Underdog List, hope he makes a great run cause I'll be pulling for him...

WLB (2) 59 - Dannell Ellerbe, 52 - Craig Robertson, 42 - Travis Feeney

Ellerbe has been the human bruise, does he finally get his poor health behind him? Utility man Robertson can cover if Ellerbe falters; Camp Watch - Travis Feeney; if Foster falls to us at No. 11, he'd likely be drafted as an WLB not as a MLB...

LCB (2) 40 - Delvin Breaux, 20 - Ken Crawley, 43 - Jimmy Pruitt, 39 - Taveze Calhoun

A healthy Del Breaux will mean a rare Pro-Bowler (maybe All-Pro) CB for the Saints; Crawley continues to develop into a fine NFL DB who can already spell in a pinch; Pruitt can also play safety...

FS (3) 48 - Vonn Bell, 31 - Rafael Bush, 49 - Shiloh Keo, 35 - Robenson Therezie

Boy that Rafael Bush really makes you feel better about the FS position; Can Bell justify his two-pick investment? Great depth and a quality special teamer in the 3rd slot with Keo...

SS (2) 32 - Kenny Vaccaro, 30 - Erik Harris, 37 - Chris Banjo, 00 - Forrest Hightower

Contract year for Kenny V, does he finally play like the high first rounder we expected? Harris also was an early victim of the IR bug, if not, Banjo could capably back up and will be another special teams standout...

RCB (3) 25 - P.J. Williams, 24 - Sterling Moore, 21 - De’Vante Harris, 27 - Damian Swann, 00 - Anthony Gaitor

PJ has had the worst luck. Williams changes that this season and his play will warrant Pro-Bowl consideration; Sterling Moore should be the nickel slot and has a great track record against nemesis Julio Jones; De'Vante Harris with a year under his belt should push Swann out; Swann was once considered a safety prospect; either way, with the talent in this draft at CB, we still take one to improve the group...

Got to respect a player who understands the work that has to be put in and yet understands he doesn't have to give away his leverage in contract negotiations...

Alex Okafor i see as player that DA will use like the cards did. they lined him up all over the place. DE/OLB/ILB/DT he might be a toy for DA to use all over place. I like him when he was shooting the A gap. He was always very disruptive.

This is why I hope the NFL institutes an IR system somewhat like that of baseball where any player can be returned. Pat Kirwin of NFL Radio has been lobbying for that for some time now. The only reason it is the way it is now is because the NFL was worried about teams stashing away players with fake injuries. That can be easily addressed with an independent medical examiner that can give approval for players going on and coming off IR.
