The tremendous need we have at DE opposite Cam with size and speed is blaring and why I originally had Malik McDowell mocked as a perfect complement for the Saints...

It would be a tremendous mistake to take Taco at 11, though he's a quality player and could do us some good, 11 just seems way too high...

Know Hagan has often beat the drum that we need to move back in the draft, pick up a second and/or third round pick and then take a DE there and in that situations, it makes sense...

But as deep as this draft is at DE (as it was last year), I think we could stay disciplined and select the BPA at 11 where the elite players are 12-14 deep and get an impact player of that caliber...

And wait and still take players in the next two rounds who can complement our front four...

In my current mock I'd have us taking:

No. 11 (R1, 11) LB Reuben Foster, ‘Bama; Height: 6' 1"; Weight: 236 lbs.

No. 44 (R2, 10) LB T.J. Watt, Wisconsin; Height: 6' 4", Weight: 245 lbs.

No. 74 (R3, 12) DE Tanoh Kpassagnon, Villanova; Height: 6' 6", Weight: 280 lbs.

No. 109 (R4, 11) LB Elijah Lee, Kansas St; Height: 6’ 3”, Weight: 225 lbs.

No. 150 (R5, 12) Traded to the Washington Redskins

No. 185 (R6, 10) C Jon Toth, Kentucky; Height: 6’ 5”, Weight: 310 lbs.

No. 233 (R7, 11) CB Ezra Robinson, Tennessee St/Michigan St; Height: 5’ 11”, Weight: 185 lbs.

The youth, speed I'd at infuse at linebacker, plus the size/speed with Kpassagnon at DE would more than a great impact on the front seven without having to put all our bets on one singular player...

And this would be after Free Agency where I'd secure at least one elite guard, a veteran defensive end and re-sign several of our productive free agents...

And keep these two thoughts in mind, we may be moving some players via trade and we may already have our defensive end on the roster in Onyemata...

It's not that my way is the right way, I just make the right way my way...

— I won’t focus on Oklahoma’s Joe Mixon at this time, but another player with serious (though not domestic violence in nature) character concerns is Michigan State’s Malik McDowell. According to one person close to the program, McDowell has been a substantial motivational and attitude problem for his coaching staff since his freshman year. He has cussed out teammates and coaches on the practice field, and he left the team prematurely with an “injury” late in the season. He often went off-script from the defensive game plan, and while he looked fantastic in isolation, it did him no favors with the coaching staff and some of his teammates.

One general manager told this person his team would pay McDowell's signing bonus if a team in his division drafted him in the first round. That last part is quite a hot take, but it’s notable in the sense that not only is McDowell concerning for teams, but teams are expecting him to be more of a cancer than a benefit. He reminds of Sheldon Richardson coming out of Missouri, though Richardson’s teammate issues weren’t nearly as concerning.
from every report i've seen, it seems like thats the case for him. Huge Motivational issues...takes plays off. We all have seen what happens when a player doesn't "love" football...Justin Gilbert.

Well, if I'm a Saints personnel man, I want to do some in-depth background work and have a couple of interviews, maybe break bread and find out what's going on with him...

Really like Andrus Peat, but we let Marcus Peters go by us to the Chiefs because we didn't really find out, understand his issues...

Ireland's first season with us, so the scouts still remaining bufu'ed that one...

We've missed multiple players that fell right into our laps - Marcus Peters, Kwon Alexander, Deion Jones to name a few.

No we didn't.

We took Michael Thomas before Deion Jones. Not a mistake.
We took Andrus Peat before Marcus Peters (drug addict team cancer). Not a mistake.
Kwon was passed up by everyone until the 4th round. Not a mistake

If we fail to find a long-term answer at DE this offseason, keep an eye on NC State's Bradley Chubb this fall. With Ryan Nielsen being our new D-Line coach there's a great connection.

Like Anderson was my disappointment in staying in school for 2016

Chub is my #1 disappointment for returning. smart kid grrrrr

Bradley Chubb SDE N.C. State 6031 276 4.86 #9 Jr
plays behind the line and sets the edge.

next

Josey Jewell ILB/OLB Iowa 6006 235 4.74 #43 rJr
A true three-down prospect. does everything at ILB well.

*Marquis Haynes DE/OLB Mississippi 6021 222 4.67 #10 Jr
heat-seeking missile off the edge who is a natural pass-rusher. functional strength. extremely undersized situational rusher right now has to get better in run defense and bulk up

3a. Davis Webb, QB, California
3b. Raekwon McMillan, LB, Ohio State

4a. Pat Elflein, C/G, Ohio State
4b. Kendell Beckwith, LB, LSU

6a. Antonio Garcia, OT, Troy
6b. Javarius Leamon, OT, South Carolina State

7a. Caleb Peterson, G, North Carolina
7b. Marlon Mack, RB, South Florida
