Honestly, they haven't really had a great recent history with high draft picks. The do, however, knock it out of the park in free agency.

Last year we traded a 3 and a 4 for Bell in round 2 despite having a roadblock for him an expensive FA investment in Byrd... I wouldn't have made that move for Bell; I would've waited to see if he would have been there in Round 3 and then taken him... And we wouldn't have had to use two more picks to get a round 4 to take Onyemata... Those lesser picks usually are guys that have the goods, but don't haven't developed to be able to contribute at a min. NFL level, yet... |
It's not that my way is the right way, I just make the right way my way...

A couple more weeks to bask in the euphoric Failclown collapse and then the Combine will be here and we can get back to focusing on fixing our sub-.500 team.

Re: 2017 New Orleans Saints Draft - Scouting Prospect Visits, Bowl Games
Found an interesting piece of info on Michigan State's Malik McDowell from this site...
NFL draft rumors: Patrick Mahomes might be top QB; Lions want another TE | NFL | Sporting News — I won’t focus on Oklahoma’s Joe Mixon at this time, but another player with serious (though not domestic violence in nature) character concerns is Michigan State’s Malik McDowell. According to one person close to the program, McDowell has been a substantial motivational and attitude problem for his coaching staff since his freshman year. He has cussed out teammates and coaches on the practice field, and he left the team prematurely with an “injury” late in the season. He often went off-script from the defensive game plan, and while he looked fantastic in isolation, it did him no favors with the coaching staff and some of his teammates. One general manager told this person his team would pay McDowell's signing bonus if a team in his division drafted him in the first round. That last part is quite a hot take, but it’s notable in the sense that not only is McDowell concerning for teams, but teams are expecting him to be more of a cancer than a benefit. He reminds of Sheldon Richardson coming out of Missouri, though Richardson’s teammate issues weren’t nearly as concerning. |
"When you get into one of these groups, there's only a couple of ways you can get out. One, is death; the other, is mental institutions."

Really like Andrus Peat, but we let Marcus Peters go by us to the Chiefs because we didn't really find out, understand his issues... Ireland's first season with us, so the scouts still remaining bufu'ed that one... |
