Cooks wasn't going to get us over this slumo. Drew time is running shorter and its time to throw the chips down. Cooks was an expendable assest. The front office took the best offer available and will try to improve the defense. The move up from 4th round to end of the 3rd is a bonus and could be the difference in a player we want. The offense has lost 1100 yards. With an improved defense take some yards off. You can easily see Thomas and hopefully Fleener covering a third to half them yards and Ginn can easily be a 4-700 yard receiver. A new slot receiver/3rd down back will cover the holes too. This isnt loosing a Graham/Colston type thats also a massive red zone threat. Changes needed made |
Re: Brandin Cooks Officially Traded to Patriots
So SP was just blowing smoke up everyone's a$$ when he said it would take a significant offer to trade away Cooks.

Our defense stinks because our recent picks and FA moves stink. Sorry, but that's just reality. |

Re: Brandin Cooks Officially Traded to Patriots
Let's remember at this time last year the "Experts" were crying because of our poor WR class. "No real #1" By the end of the season it was "The best WR trio in the NFL!!!"

Now we're sending a Top 5 proven NFL wide receiver, 23yo, healthy and our 4th round, pick 118 to New England, for the Patriots' first round, pick 32 and third round, pick 76... And as I said on the other thread, it's not realistic to expect to recover Loomis/Payton's reach and overpay to get Cooks, but damn, to have to give up two picks in return again?!? AND to see that 4th round pick killed by Goodell for Deflategate; why not trade back in the fourth before and get a fifth round pick first - Just, D*mn... New England NEVER loses in trades... Forget the salary cap hit by Cooks bonus in a few days, but we've only once seemingly won on a trade (Graham to Seattle) and even that's in jeopardy because we took a near rookie of the year on defense and turned him into a marginal roster player making the trade more even now - Unger has been a gem... But now, it would seem, the Mickster is back to his old self and buffoonery - Bet Benson would have never let Mickey near his car business back in the day... Were we ever able to confirm the Titans offer? Are we sending Cooks further away thinking we won't hear his name again? Something's amiss and I'm sure we'll hear Coach P with his doubletalk, new speak spin before long where he says a whole lotta nothing... This further damns Payton/Loomis' credibility in trade negotiations as now everyone in the league will know they're FOS on standards "it would take a significant offer"? MFer, C'mon Sean! You're a great X&Os man but stay the f*ck out of the business end of it or you'll be a one-hit wonder... |

Re: Brandin Cooks Officially Traded to Patriots
Look guys in the end we didn't end up with much less than we gave for Cooks. The draft picks are important this year and Cooks wouldn't have been as important. Thomas would've eaten up a lot of Cooks yards, Snead will take some more and the younger receivers, well their young and will take up the rest of the slack. Maybe we look at another Sproles type and pass, pass, pass! Cooks is a good player but he wouldn't have made us good enough to win the division, now 2 picks on the other hand might? It's a chance we must be able to allow our Saints!
