agree with most on here, although we don't like what we did on this trade. This must have been as good as it gets. We have to make changes to set what we want in the end.

I read Cooks got into a shouting match with coaches after the Ram game.

A malcontent that was gone next year for a big asking price. We didn't have much leverage and 31 other teams probably knew it.

I'm guessing the extended wait Friday was we were trying to get the best deal. This was the best deal on the table

It does make me wonder if he was going to be released ASAP anyways. If so, we got an extra draft pick in the first and moved up a few spaces from the fourth to the end of the third. I know I was all starry eyed thinking about getting one of the Titans first rounders and this or that player, but if we were getting rid of him regardless then hey. We came out okay... maybe even better than okay.

True, we don't have any behind the scenes details

Doubtful as it wouldn't have been in the team's best interest. This is the best timing for two reasons:

1. Cooks was owed a $750K roster bonus Monday.
2. If the Saints were not going to pick up his 5th year option, then he would be a free agent one year from now.

In short, this was the best time for a trade. If a suitable deal was not to be had, the Saints would had kept him at a cheap price this upcoming season then let him go into free agency with nothing in return.

and so....

Exactly. Many are complaining that the Saints got screwed. The bottom line is that trying to play hardball would leave the team letting Cooks go with nothing in return.

Told everyone here BB was going to fleece Payton and Payton was going to smile about it. I surely wouldn't have given up the 4th with the draft being this deep, Payton got creampied. NE has to many WR.'s now, I look for them to trade 1 of their WR to get some of their picks back.

So what you keep a player that has made it obvious he doesn't want to be here. Likely wont re-sign and the Saints wouldn't want to pay him.

What do you do other than take the best offer thats there.

There was obviously no Titans offer of 18 without more going back. Most think they wanted tbe Saints 2 and Cooks for 18. A far worse deal.

I can agree with this to a point but was it us doing this or NE dragging their feet in the trade knowing today that we would have owed Cooks the money and waited to offer up a better deal to their liking. My money is on option #2.

Ask yourself what is the difference between pick #32 & pick #33

HUGE difference. #32 carries the fifth year option.
