Don't forget about the calming influence Ireland has in the war room. Stick to your guns for the second rounder and a player we don't need that they like.

I've always believed that #32 was a placeholder for Butler. Which is fine because we'd blow that pick on some 3rd round prospect.

Pro bowl CB M. Butler for #42 Huge Win
For # 32 is really trading Cooks for Butler not nearly as good but not terrible.
Butler is much more of a sure thing than any rookie and is game ready now!
Day one Butler makes us a better Defense!
Salary is a big concern.
I am wondering if we wait and see how the draft plays out before we pull the trigger on this trade
I am wondering why we did not go harder at some of the other FA CB

Yea to me it's obvious that Payton is too eager to make this happen. Payton sees a player he wants and like a crackhead try's his damndest to make it happen. Billicheck knows he has Payton over a barrel. I would like to see him here but only at the right cost. Should have packaged it in with Cooks deal.

Saints should keep all of their picks. If they want Butler so bad they can always overpay him next season.

Do you not get it yet? You have had the whole thing explained several times. Nothing could be done until Butler was under contract so he could NEVER be part of the Cooks deal. You CANNOT trade a player not under contract.

Do you have a clue how it works at all?

No I get it. They could have signed him for the sole reason of trading. him at the time. Teams do it all the time jackass. They could have hashed it out before FA even began.

Also, the analysts were saying Sherman could cost less, like a second . Yes he's older but he would def be shut down for a couple of years. If we are in win now mode I say go that route.

No, you still don't get it. The Patriots had no say in the matter. They had a tender on Butler. Butler had not signed the tender, so he wasn't under contract. The Patriots couldn't just "sign him for the sole reason of trading him at the time." The Patriots couldn't do squat until Butler decided to sign the tender, which he just did weeks later.
