You know they'll sign McCourty who will slot right in like a probbowl CB while we loose a cheap player for 5 years and pay Butler 12+ml a year

Do you not get it yet? You have had the whole thing explained several times. Nothing could be done until Butler was under contract so he could NEVER be part of the Cooks deal. You CANNOT trade a player not under contract.

Do you have a clue how it works at all?

I don't think Butler is worthless. He's a good corner. But idk how to feel about him if we give the #32 back. I guess for me it'll depend on how much his contact is going to cost.

Butler is good but not good enough for a first and the cap hit.

We are talking shut down CB prices.

Butler is no where near a shut down CB.

I watch him play every Sunday for years.

Do not go down this rabbit hole

all you will get is a Byrd in the end

I hope you're wrong. Problem is we're all a bit apprehensive and gun-shy when it comes to getting DBs now. That's all due to Byrd. He got paid WAY too much money and was never that good for us.

If we get Butler....I hope it's nothing like the Byrd situation.

Forget the 32nd pick, even if we sent just a third round pick back, here's the thing about Butler, many here (and obviously in Saints plaza) don't realize...

Butler and his representation are gonna argue he's rated as a Top 10 CB (if you follow PFF and others, they're right) and he's openly stated he wants to be compensated accordingly. Have no problem, he should get all he can...

I also follow Pat's games, and the problem I have is this: Butler rarely ever covers the opponents X-receiver (No. 1). Ever. So you're gonna pay him that kind of money for a shorter CB? Did we learn nothing from Jason David?

WTF is the problem in the Saints' office that they are so insecure about drafting & developing a CB?

Even if he comes in and gives solid play against the other teams Y receiver, you could have cap savings with a number of stellar rookie CBs from this draft season?

Why does this team continue to overpay?!?

How about this...

What does it say about Payton/Loomis ineptness in personnel moves vs Belichick that we use a first and third round pick to acquire an All-American and now NFL Top 5 WR and trade that away for a Div. II player UDRFA who blossomed in the Patriots defensive system?

Would it not bother you that a CB who seemingly has made some big plays for his team now sees that team unwilling to pay him, but another CB MORE money than his asking price and is willing to trade him away?

This entire unfolding of events is nothing more than Payton/Loomis raising a white flag and saying - "We give up. We don't know WTF we're doing in personnel matters. We're gonna put it all on this player and when the fails to bring home another Superbowl, we'll just hang it all on him."

Have never seen such a brilliant offensive game planer handicap his teams with the worst personnel moves as Payton seems to do annually...

Even if Butler doesn't bust. Even if the team's defense rebounds, which I've argued it was gonna do anyway. There's no ledger sheet that can reconcile the wasteful use of draft picks Payton has burned through...

We really need a front office man with power over Payton to put this kind of crap in check; The Loomis Rubber Stamp has got to freaking go.

When the late Mr. Finks was here, he told Mora who to draft and had Mora coach the team - no one man had that much decision making power...

When Mr. Finks passed, Mora had full reign and when he got the players he wanted, he smoked the team like a dive-bombing Japanese Zero in flames into the ocean with his personnel moves...

This is the price of failing to recognize and learn from your history.

I just dont understand why you give up a 1st rounder for a player youll be paying north of 12ml when you could have gone after Gilmour,Bouye for no loss and similar money. Or even now with Jason McCourty on the open market. You know the Pats sign him and make him a pro bowler and make out like bandits

I don't know how this side of it works, but is it possible that this becomes a draft day trade where the Saints wait until pick 32 and only trade for Butler if they feel there's no one better on the board?

It's the contract.
