Brace yourself ...

Peter King talking a 2 and 3 to do they deal

That is far too much for my likeing. If he had a couple of years left on his rookie deal im cool with that but not when we need to pay him 12-14ml a year off the bat. For me either a 3rd or our 2 and 3 or 4 back

Better by far than anything we have. Question is, what will it cost us? 12 million a year and our 3rd rd pick? Anything more than a 3rd and we will get bent over by the pats again. Ideal would be giving them back the late 3rd they gave us. Does anyone know what we will have to give up if there is not trade? Just signing him off his rfa?

Pass... Keep the draft picks... Except if it is a 7th rounder.

I hope we don't give up a #32 for Butler.

It is worse. If we sign him and NE doesn't match we lose the #11 pick not the 32nd.

Its the highest pick in that round is what you lose. Unless somehow NO and NE re-work the Cooks trade.

The Patriots will most likely do that just to screw with us aswell.

We cannot afford to lose the #11 pick for a guy that isnt even game breaking, he's solid at best.

Another team in Malcolm Butler mix: #Texans.

Source said they're interested in sending 2nd-rd pick to NE if can get Butler signed long term

I like him but not at the cost of our 1's.

I want to see who we could get in the draft that I would pass if I had to give up our picks.

Re: Breaking: Malcolm Butler visiting Saints Thursday!

Remember we're playing with New England. It means they are gonna **** us if things aren't done right. They always get the upper hand. A second round pick. Please don't go higher than that. Just the second round pick. And don't sign this guy for more than 12 million a year.

I don't know if you guys realize how desperate we are. If we have another forgettable season Brees and Payton could both easily be gone. This season is it for righting the ship.

Re: Breaking: Malcolm Butler visiting Saints Thursday!

He will get an avg of 12ml minimum. Probably closer to 14

Re: Breaking: Malcolm Butler visiting Saints Thursday!

Pass...28 years old and wanting a long term deal....thats why NE went younger. I'd rather screw up a draft pick than to screw up a FA signing that going to cost us 13M+ a year. He a system player anyway.

burningmetal 03-14-2017 11:52 AM

Re: Breaking: Malcolm Butler visiting Saints Thursday!

We don't need Butler. We already settled in the Cooks deal, so why should we go and give the Patriots more of our assets for a guy who might be good? I don't really buy into the hype surrounding Butler, but even if he were all he is said to be, we don't have that big of a need at Corner. Breaux and Williams have to stay healthy this time, but that goes for everyone. We could sign Butler and have him tear his ACL in OTA's.

We just don't have that glaring of a need at corner to pay a high price for another. I'd be willing to give up some picks, even #11, for a proven commodity... If he were a legitimate pass rusher. Not for a corner.

I get that, but I don't think he's the guy to help. I could be wrong, and if he ends up here I surely hope I am wrong. I just don't think he's what his reputation says he is. Didn't often line up against the opposing teams #1 WR, plays in a division with 3 awful quarterbacks, had a really good supporting cast around him, short-ish, slow-ish... too many red flags for my liking.

I agree that Loomis and Payton are desperate, but not because they have any fear of losing their jobs. They are desperate because they want to win.

Re: Breaking: Malcolm Butler visiting Saints Thursday!

I'd be fine with 9 million a year and a second for a proven guy that immediately becomes our best corner. he might have other suitors and they can overpay if they want.
9 a year is barely top 15 money for a corner, and he just turned 27 last week

as for the #1 we might lose, this would obviously have to be a trade and sign, not a sign and get screwed

I know it's Ian Rappoport but take it for what it's worth...

On #Saints & Malcolm Butler: They’ve begun negotiations on a new contract & hope to strike a deal this week. Then talk trade with #Patriots

You can tell what Belichek will most likely do though.

They could agree to a deal over the phone and then New England would refuse the offer, which means they get our #11 pick and we get this guy. Don't trade with them, Keep all 7 draft picks, we need them!

I heard they were going to ask Armstead to convert his money to a signing bonus i guess this is why perhaps. Im fine with it as long as we don't go over 10-11 mil a year and only give up a second. There's a reason the saints are scheduled first it's not a coincidence.

You might be the only person on earth that thinks those two are safe. 3 7-9 seasons in a row with Brees as qb.

Re: Breaking: Malcolm Butler visiting Saints Thursday!

BB strikes again. As deep as this draft is at cb. and depth at the defense side to strenghten this team for years to come, Payton takes a cb. from NE giving up picks is stupid.A team only does that if a team is that position player away from completing a solid D, in which we are nowhere near. OUR CUP DON'T RUNNITH OVER ON THE D SIDE.

Hen why did we trade cooks!?!?!?!? Sure he wanted out, so does butler. Why give a 1? We just gave away a guy in the same boat.

Difference is one was a WR who we can replace the other is D which we badly need help at...

I couldn't agree more. Payton is selling his soul trying to put together a D for his boy Allen(which I have no faith whatsoever in) to run. It amazes me how long and many years that fielding a dreadful D has caused us to stink it up and he has done little to nothing til now. I think Paytons fate is going to depend totally on how his boys Allens D performs and if it fails I hope they fire Payton and Allen.

Man, a lot of people really have a lot of faith in our drafting skills.
I'd much rather have a 27 year old starter than another Cie Grant Jonathan Sullivan Usama Young Sedric Ellis and 5 different CB's

Jonathan Vilma for a second was one of our best deals ever

I use to have no faith in our drafting but Ireland has helped me with that more than one could know. It's a great D draft and I really hated giving NE that 4th in the Cooks trade to be honest solely because of depth. I'm not in favor of having to give high picks when they can be used to build on.

I agree Scotty and if it's 2nd and a decent fair contract, great. The thing is this is the Pats we're dealing with. I'm not in favor of giving up a first round pick for Butler. I honestly think they tagged him over his value so they could move him and get a first for him. They know he's not worth that. They probably already knew they'd get Gilmore. So at best they'd give Butler a one year deal and let him walk.

Cruize 03-14-2017 01:20 PM

Re: Breaking: Malcolm Butler visiting Saints Thursday!

Just say no. The price is WAY too high. He's a good player. He's NOT a great player. BB and his staff get the MOST out of they're players. I wouldn't sign him to the money, let alone the draft picks.

CheramieIII 03-14-2017 01:21 PM

Re: Breaking: Malcolm Butler visiting Saints Thursday!

If Loomis can work a deal that has little effect on the cap this season and we only trade the 3rd back to the Patriots then it's a great pickup.

Butler will improve our secondary dramatically and getting Sterling Moore to resign is a priority now. If we get both we will not draft a CB in the 1st 3 rounds but DE and OL.
