Pass...28 years old and wanting a long term deal....thats why NE went younger. I'd rather screw up a draft pick than to screw up a FA signing that going to cost us 13M+ a year. He a system player anyway.

It means that he fits into the system and role that the Patriots needed him to. Bill B is a defensive mastermind and knows how to protect his players weaknesses. I have yet to see Allen or anyone since Williams do that for us.

We have been burned too many times with big payouts. I would rather we sit tight and draft a CB and DE with two of our first three picks. If Butler was as special as people think do you think Bill B would trade him when he can have him for 3.9M? Also, why would they pay Gilmore instead of someone they know well.

He had some good plays but he also got beat bad several times. I think if we fix the pass rush we don't need to pay 13M+ for a CB. Let's draft one since the draft is deep and we should be fine.

You couldn't said it clearer. If he signed to a contract, the same people that is praising him going to be the same ones start to berate him once they get a real good look at him. Belchick never would line him up with the opposing team best without help over the top help. Malcolm about to be paid big for one play, I hope Loomis not the dummy to pay him.

Re: Breaking: Malcolm Butler visiting Saints Thursday!

We don't need Butler. We already settled in the Cooks deal, so why should we go and give the Patriots more of our assets for a guy who might be good? I don't really buy into the hype surrounding Butler, but even if he were all he is said to be, we don't have that big of a need at Corner. Breaux and Williams have to stay healthy this time, but that goes for everyone. We could sign Butler and have him tear his ACL in OTA's.

We just don't have that glaring of a need at corner to pay a high price for another. I'd be willing to give up some picks, even #11, for a proven commodity... If he were a legitimate pass rusher. Not for a corner.

If I had a nickel for every time I heard that, the NFL would fine and suspend me.

I'd be fine with 9 million a year and a second for a proven guy that immediately becomes our best corner. he might have other suitors and they can overpay if they want.
9 a year is barely top 15 money for a corner, and he just turned 27 last week

as for the #1 we might lose, this would obviously have to be a trade and sign, not a sign and get screwed

I know it's Ian Rappoport but take it for what it's worth...

On #Saints & Malcolm Butler: They’ve begun negotiations on a new contract & hope to strike a deal this week. Then talk trade with #Patriots

You can tell what Belichek will most likely do though.

They could agree to a deal over the phone and then New England would refuse the offer, which means they get our #11 pick and we get this guy. Don't trade with them, Keep all 7 draft picks, we need them!
